2: Whats your favorite kind of pred/prey?
I am the number 1 advocate for cruel and apathetic preds, but every now and then I like the more caring (but still fatal) pred.
I don't have much experience predding, but bratty prey seem fun from my experience.
9: Do you like being surprised upon slarps or do you like a warning beforehand?/Do you like prey that are surprised upon slarping, or do you like giving them a heads up?
I prefer to plan out my RPs beforehand, but don't inherently have anything against surprise sessions.

Imagine with me, if you will, a world where demons co-exist with humans but not in the way that you think.
A secret society of people being willingly possessed by animal masks that are split politically. One half wants to be hidden and remain a secret killing society while the other half wants to be seen, known and recognized.
There are two leaders to these parties:
The leader of the Secret Animasks is a man who wears a lion mask. He believes that if they were to reveal themselves to the world, there would be mass hysteria. Not to mention that most of the animal mask wearing people are killers.
The other leader is a young girl who turned into an unspoken leader who wears a panda mask. They believe that the masks deserve freedom and rehabilitation into the "Daylight Society" (since the "Animasks/Nighttime Society" only come out at night).
Not to give any spoiler but the lion mask and the panda mask wearers are related. Not the masks- the people that wear the masks.
There are groups of people who come together with these masks like gangs and cults to create even MORE drama in the Animask world.
One of these gangs is lead by a cute young kid who wears a bunny mask and carries around a bat.
Another is lead by the panda mask themself. The panda mask has a friend. A large man who wears a grizzly bear mask and carries around an axe. (Because I didn't mention it: The panda mask carries around a simple, large knife.)
Together, Grizzly and Panda work together as frenemies to stop the Lion president of the Animask Society from keeping the Animasks hidden from the daylight.
I was flipping through my sketchbook and found that I’d hashed out a rough two pages of an Animask comic, focusing on David’s betrayal and his attack on Jake (next page... which i’ll have done... eventually). Jake has swords for Rule of Cool and also bc I’m very unoriginal lmao
Is David throwing deuces to symbolize that he’s taken out two Animorphs? (who else did he attack?), is he making a mockery of the peace sign? Is he taunting Jake? We just don’t know.

He did like his rat mask. The muzzle was long, gave him room to breathe and extra space to hide nasty surprises for anyone who crossed him. His hair gathered in the back in a little rattail that Rachel had always despised made it all too appropriate an animal for him.
But, boys had to grow up, didn’t they? And he had a brand new mask, recently pulled from a conquest. He was done playing in the small leagues with a tiny group like this. They were a thorn in the side of the Yeerks, but they didn’t have anywhere near the sway or power either the Yeerks or Andalites had. The Yeerks specifically had a taste for those who stole the masks of others.
He grinned down at his prize. Sure, it was a little banged up, a crack over one yellow eye, and stripes weren’t really his thing. But no one could say David wasn’t resourceful.
The rat mask was put to one side, newspaper was spread out, and David shook a can of gold paint. As he worked, gold paint kept getting on to the carpet - but hey, who cared, it wasn’t like he was paying for this motel room, or like they even knew he was here.
Orange and black disappeared as a lion rose out of the tiger’s image. David cocked his head to one side. It needed something. Sitting back, he leaned against the bed and his bat fell over.
He hefted it in his hands, remembering the swing. Remembering the hit. Over and over and over, showing just who was the most powerful between him and Jake. Sitting up, he swung it again, remembering the satisfaction of hitting the leader of the Animorphs while he was down.
Blood splattered on the mask, having still been wet between the nails and barbed wire on the end of his favourite weapon. David put his bat down again and leaned forwards to examine the lion mask. He reached down to the mask and felt a grin on his face, tracing out a big toothy smile with thin streaks of blood. He’d go over it later with paint, make sure the killer grin remained. Let everyone know exactly who they were messing with.
He fished out a permanent marker from his pocket and scrawled a nose and shapes on the ears to suggest the inner ear. All he needed now was a hood.
Luckily, he’d been confident and believed in himself. His materials were pre-stolen, and he pulled them out of the raggedy backpack he’d picked up from a bus station locker on his way from beating Jake to death. A large piece of dark amber fur, probably fake. A decently large scrap of kevlar, to provide a tiny bit of protection, and plenty of padding.
He added more blood to the mask and the mane as he sewed diligently, fingers being pricked by the needle over and over. He wondered how much blood Cassie was seeing about now. Was she crying over Jake’s body? Probably. Rachel wouldn’t be crying, though, not until she thought she was totally alone, where no one could see her. He snickered as he pulled thread through fabric. She’d be out for his blood, but he was pretty sure he could take the bear-themed Barbie doll.
Speaking of… He lifted the mane and eyed it critically, picturing Rachel in his head. Her bear hood was about the same size, if he remembered right.
He ripped up the sheets from the motel bed to add extra volume to his mane.
There. Perfect.
He tried it on and looked in the mirror. He wasn’t too far from the rat he’d been. Still wiry, his jeans were ripped, and his clothes looked the same. But his mane covered his shoulders and rose up behind the lion mask, which grinned into the mirror. He snickered and picked up his bat, leaning the smooth wood near the handle against his shoulder. The blood stains would fade, but he liked seeing them now.
“I think I could use those brass knuckles I saw the other day being used by that Yeerk kid on 49th street.” He mused aloud, and was pleased by the way the mask made his voice sound. “The spikes were a nice touch.”
He’d go get them. Right now, he could take on anyone.
(Animasks) Mmmmmmmmm oh my god wait okay so I was thinking that David takes Jake's tiger mask and makes it his lion mask bc I love the David vs Jake showdown and also it's David displaying his power by taking out the leader of the Animorphs and also taking someone's mask is symbolic of killing someone (it's like headhunting??) Maybe I'll make a group of mask collectors (ie hitmen) that the Yeerks or Vissers employ and that David wants to join??? BUUUTTT what if the lion mask is Saddlers?? So we still get the unnerving scene of David masquerading as Saddler. Which could be really wild since this is a world where faces aren't seen and it could be p easy to fake a voice etc etc so like it's still very reasonable for David to get away with the swap. Yikes!!
i felt bad having an incomplete set, so here’s some roughs for Marco and Ax’s designs for the Animasks thang
Ax doesn’t have an animal mask bc he’s from a different city/country/gang/whatever. His bandanna is from Elfangor and his whole design is essentially Danny Zuko, but blue. Mostly I just want everyone to look at him and be like ‘oh no he’s hot’ and also he has tiny delicate feet.
As for Marco... gorilla masks aren’t as cute as all the other masks so they’re hard to draw, haha. I think I’ll end up adjusting Marco’s mask so it’s smiling, which will be the only Anikid mask that’s smiling- bc of his look on life to take everything as a joke or else it’ll break you.
We still don’t know why these kids need excessive weapons other than they’re cool to draw!! Who are y’all fighting? Why are you fighting? Maybe one day we’ll find out.

The whole au is set in some urban dystopia/apocalyptic (near?)future. Think like... the dirty/worn down futuristic stuff? And everyone wears masks. They also use incredibly outdated weapons. Guns are for the rich. The Animorphs are not rich.
As for masks: the rule in this au is that a mask has to be worn at all times. It’s like, more embarrassing/humiliating than being naked to be seen without a mask. You just Don’t Do It. Obviously all the Animorphs wear masks of their main battle morphs from the series. Tobias’ is especially stylized to make him very ‘other’.

if we are going the route of street gangs, then each gang needs a way to mark who they’re a member of.
The Animorphs symbol is the stylized ‘A’ from the Animorphs logo, and I thought maybe black jackets with the A on the back could work for them.
Yeerks, Hork-Bajir, Andalites and even the Chee need symbols and matching outfits too! Get creative!
So far everyone is implied to be human but I’m not against the aliens staying aliens if we make that work too.
Weapons. (Most of these are easily changed for better ideas)
Rachel - 2-sided axe. It’s almost bigger than she is. Has a sharp pommel as well.
Tobias - Short daggers. He usually throws them from high-up places.
Marco - Lead pipe? Morningstar? Marco’s the only one who carries a shield.
Cassie - Chains and quarterstaff. Both can be used non-lethal but can deal massive damage when she needs to.
Jake - Dual katana. Rule of cool, mostly. He’s very skilled and dangerous, but also has to be very fast and light on his feet to stay alive.
Ax - Scythe with retractable handle. It’s both a long-range and close-range weapon.
David - Wooden baseball bat with barbed wire and nails
Why do they need to carry weapons?? We just don’t know.

Re: my Animorphs mask au that needs a better name than 'crazy animal hit squad' I'll sketch up Marco and Ax tomorrow. Marco, so far, will have a gorilla but they're hard for me to draw which is why I haven't yet lmao So far Ax has a motorcycle helmet-kinda look?? To set him apart as 'alien' to the Anihumans (he's human in this au too, but you get the idea) but bc he defected from the Andalite gang to keep fighting the Yeerks after they killed his brother/got Elfangor sent to Mask Prison (idk how far this au goes in terms of pain/injury/death either...) Otherwise I'm spitballing all sorts of ideas. Did Elfangor give the kids the ability to create different masks? Is that why he was targeted by the Yeerks? Do the masks give them any sort of powers? How tf does this society tell anyone apart if more than two people are wearing the same mask? Are there different masks for different 'classes'?? Do kids wear different masks than adults? Do certain masks = certain jobs or even does wearing one mask limit you from a career? Are there even careers? Do the Anikids have families that they go home to, or are they all orphans? How old are the Anikids in this au? Do people have more than one mask? When do you start wearing a mask? Who decides what mask you get?? There's way more questions than answers but for now I'm just playing w whatever looks cool.
