Remember: No matter how many obstacles biggest corporations place on artists, as long as there is a passion and love for storytelling and a means of expression, creativity will never die. It will change, but it will prevail. ❤️🔥🎭
This International Animation Day, we celebrate our roots! It's taken a lot of work to get to today, so let's honor all the Toons: past, present, and future!
I thought it would be fitting to post this one today since.. it features cartoonish characters from different countries lol. Also it's a redraw of the same scene from the official issue of the Merry Pictures which I thought was too funneh not to share: where the companies' mascots met each other (semi-officially? i can't check rn. it was the last century's issue, bear with me akjhskjh). Thought it would be cute to visualise their meeting in my style!
Also also this is legit my first time ever drawing Mickey. Well after like a hundred attempts trying to get his proportions right.
tl;dr for those who don't follow my hyperfixations know who the characters are: on the left is Disney's Mickey Mouse (representing the USA), on the right is Pencil - a character originated from the Soviet-Russian childrens magazine Merry Pictures (representing... well. take a wild guess. yep you've got it).
Translation:
- Hello! - said Mickey Mouse. - I've come from America.
- Hello! - said Pencil. - Welcome to the Soviet Union!
- I've brought a whole bag of hellos from the American children.
- So where are they?
- Open up the issue!
