People act like I need to go to a mental hospital for believing that celestial objects like stars and planets have souls and are capable of having thoughts and feelings like humans and animals. They try to correct me and tell me that they're not literally sapient and they just have "energy" to them and I'm just doing some typical anthropomorphizing that autistic people tend to do

This is anti-animism.

Although some animism does deal in the energy present in all living things, others do regard every being as having a soul, feelings, and life. No one should force their practice of animism on you or disregard your own. This is also ableism—your identity as autistic does not invalidate your practice of animism in any way.

So, being that the other post was about stealth proselytizing and not curiosity, allow me to start a new one.

Why is it that you believe in the existance/presence of a god? And if you don't believe, what is it that causes you to still follow your religion (whatever it may be)?

For me it is the complexity and intricacy of life that makes me believe in G-d. And also the big bang, something must have happened to cause something from nothingness.

And I practice my religion not because of the existance/presence of G-d but because it is a connection to my culture, community, and traditions. It is a way for me to affirm that yes, I am Jewish, and yes that means something to me. Honestly, my belief in the existance of G-d is somehow almost completely separate from my practicing my religion.

I don't consider myself pagan, but am an animist and wanted to share an experience.

Anti animism and science (?, wtf was happening here) was telling someone about my animist beliefs and them saying "oh, but obviously you don't think that bugs and plants and stuff have [souls and feelings]* tho. They don't have feelings."

*can't remember exact phrasing

Obviously yes?? I believe that about litterally everything. Not to mention there is quite litterally EVIDENCE of bees having fun playing with balls? Spiders care for and love thier babies? Trees and fungi appear to communicate with one another with electrochemical signals? Ive litterally told this person about these things. Why would they think I would agree.

Anyways, be courteous to plants and bugs, even if you aren't animist; they are feeling and thinking beings too.

This is anti animism.

Animistic beliefs are not so outlandish as to be "obviously" not believed. Furthermore, a lot of animistic beliefs are based in grounded observations of the world around us. Pretending that we just "make it up" is another tool used to discredit animists.

Being laughed at for respecting objects.

This is anti-animism.

No one should be laughed at for their beliefs, and it is anti-animism to trivialize or dismiss animists' regard for the beings of the world.
