I’m on episode 19 of the Animorphs TV show which is available on youtube btw and I’m gonna be honest,,, I don’t hate it
I don’t know if I’m just getting used to it being bad or if the quality of the show has actually gone up, but I’m really into it
And yeah it’s slowly deviated further and further from canon, but for some reason I’m not even mad. It still feels like Animorphs yknow? It’s all clunky dialogue, 90s pop culture references, moral ambiguity, and war crimes just as KAA intended
And they didn’t whitewash the cast??? Which is really nice??????? Cassie and Marco are both played by POC actors??? And Marco is definitely gay for Ax
Anyway I highly recommend giving it a go, it’s not quality tv by any means but it’s thoroughly entertaining
Reminiscing about the Animorphs show
The infamous Animorphs show may bring up mixed feeling among fans but I still have a soft spot for it and Shawn Ashmore will always be the face of Jake in my mind.
How would you want to see an animorphs video (movie/TV/etc) done? Who would you want to see casted? What would be the best medium to present the series in (the old cartoon vs live action debate)? What elements/stories/characters from the series would you want to change in this hypothetical reboot, and what would you want to see stay the same?
Answered here!
But to give you a quick run-down of your specific questions:
Movie or TV? TV all the way. There’s really not time in a movie to tell the story of more than one of the books at most, and as Handmaid’s Tale and A Series of Unfortunate Events demonstrate, novels tend to make better shows than films.
Who to cast? TBH, I have no opinion. I defer to my beta/sister’s wonderful fancast.
Cartoon vs. live action: Cartoon, for reasons covered here.
What would I change? Answered here, and I’d like to add that the single biggest thing I’d change from AniTV is that HAVING EVERYONE CAST AS THE RIGHT ETHNICITY WOULD BE A NICE START.
Took part in an Animorphs holiday gift swap. My person said their favorite character was Cassie and they loved birds of prey. I couldn’t find an osprey pattern so I went with an owl.
Never really read the animorphs books, I just remember them as the books with the funny looking covers that I see when I went to my school’s library, any opinions of animorphs the tv show like did it improve the flas you found in the characters or not
Oh my god I’m gonna be completely honest.
I love the Animorphs show.
And it is.........................terrible is one word for it, very 90s is another. Let me put it this way: Their budget was WAY TOO LOW for what they were trying to accomplish.
I don’t...know how else to describe it. But I like it. I LOVE IT. It is hilarious.
It definitely exists in an alternate universe to the books, so it’s not in any way faithful, but that’s actually a good thing, considering the books were willed with ableism and misogyny and racism and slavery apologism and ‘genocide is a good thing actually’.
God, the show is so freaking funny just because they....they just clearly didn’t have the kind of budget they needed, so they just..........god....it’s I don’t know how to describe it.
But it I like it. It’s funny. I like most of the characters way better in the show than I do in the books, because the show at least has some of them (Like Tobias) actually doing shit instead of just fucking whining and complaining about everything. And it makes me actually want to ship Rachel and Tobias, because in the show they actually interact and are actually friends and actually have positive interactions with one another and actually fucking LIKE eachother.
WHICH IS THE BARE MINIMUM BUT KA APPLEGATE COULDN’T EVEN MANAGE THAT.
I like it. A lot of the people in the fandom hate it. But then again, a lot of the people are adults now who continue to defend everything that is horribly wrong with the books, because they don’t see a problem with ableism or misogyny or racism or slavery apologism or the idea that genocide is a good thing.
Yeah. I like it. If you can watch it I would, just see if you like it. It’s....oh, I really don’t know how to describe it except they neeeded a bigger budget and a better script and........pretty much better everything, but I still like it. I even bought it so I can rewatch it whenever I want.
In my college town, there was a local construction company called Yerkes. Seems like a perfect Yeerk cover to me! They would need a human construction company under their control to make pathways in plain sight for Controllers to reach the Yeerk Pools. And with that cheery slogan, they sound like they’d team up with The Sharing for volunteer projects to draw in new members.
Even their logo is an insect, not too far off from what a Yeerk looks like! It all makes sense!
