The Munchers Series: Word, Number, Fraction and Super (Apple II/DOS, MECC, 1985/1986/1987/1990/1991)
Just like a fake game you'd expect to see in an educational kids show, but real! Featuring enemies with differing behaviors, safe zones and between-level animations.
You can play them all in your browser here. Tip: add 'emulator:dosbox' or 'emulator:apple*' (without quotes) to the end of the search bar to narrow your choices down to one system.
The second image is an homage taken from the glorious and even genuinely beautiful fanimutation Chocolate Niblet Beans. (Here's some more about (f)animutations.)
all hail neil cicierega the creator of the web-animation hit "hyakugojyuuichi" is a home-schooled aspiring screenwriter -- and he's only 14! - - - - - - - - - - - - april 21, 2001 | by katharine mieszkowski and amy standen
neil "trapezoid" cicierega, who has at times described his occupation as "youthful dipwad," may not be a household name yet (he is, after all, only 14), but judging by his emerging track record, he's destined for great things.
he's the creator of the animated movie hyakugojyuuichi! which stars, among others, peewee Herman, hello kitty, harry potter, elton john and jay the jetplane, all set to the lively tune of a pokémon anthem. his movies may be just bizarre amalgamations of randomly chosen objects (a budweiser logo, a thumping pacemaker, justin timberlake's head), but they can easily be viewed as biting satires of the american media, trenchant observations about consumer culture -- or, at the very least, clues to unlocking some of the universe's deepest mysteries.
what seemed at first to be just another baffling web phenomenon turns out to have come from a real-life, lucky charms-eating, home-schooled kid from massachusetts. and here he is.
Can we appreciate @neilcicierega for a minute? He’s responsible for a fuckton of awesome content on the internet.
Lemon Demon, Animutations, The Ultimate Showdown Of Ultimate Destiny, Harry Potter Puppet Pals, BRODYQUEST, Ariel Needs Legs, Mouth Sounds/Silence, and tons of other amazing things exist because of this awesome dude.
whether it be in the form of YouTube Poop or Animutation or another thing, the beauty is in taking what is available and creating new out of it
the voice you can give to a remix is very important because through remixing/reinterpretation the media is no longer just some company's, but yours
I particularly loved how animutations turned mondegreens from "listening mistake" to "twisting the sounds to make the source sound silly and/or stupid"
like "STOP IT" becoming "coffee" or Oddish's Japanese name becoming "NOSTRIL UNCLE SAM"
oh damn I forgot about animutations
i loved watching those as a young teen and my first impression on youtube poop were "ah so it's sort of like animutations except possible for me to do so why don't i do some?"
though nowadays i could just get over my self-consciousness about flash and get back on learning it and then make some animutations if i want ^_^;
Does anyone remember Animutations? They were like the first thing neilcicierega did. And they were amazing. His old website still exists, unchanged from when I first saw it circa 2nd grade.
