This Featured Article we’re spotlighting MBTI and Fandom. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality typology developed in 1943. There are 16 types of personalities, and a dedicated fandom about characters based on those 16 personalities. Assigning MBTI types to fictional characters and celebrities has been a common activity among fans. Discussions focused on this practice date back to the 1990s on Usenet.

In recent years, MBTI types have gained popularity in fannish spaces alongside other fiction-based systems, such as Hogwarts Houses and the Dungeons & Dragons alignment system.
