A Good Killing
Anna Curtis series #4
by Allison Leotta
Genre: Mystery Rating: 4/5 Released: 12 May 2015 Pages: 320 Format: Audiobook Buy it now!
Anna Curtis is a federal prosecutor who is used to putting bad guys away. When her own sister is accused of murdering their hometown football coach, however, she'll switch sides to defend the only family she has left. Back at home in her Detroit suburb hometown, Anna's decision to defend the accused murderer of the local hero is met with violent opposition. Luckily, with high school friends around to support her, she is able to focus on the case at hand, although her hunky former classmate Cooper does create a healthy distraction. Will Anna be able to win her most important case yet? This was another book I picked up mid-series (I KNOW - why do I keep doing this to myself?! I find these mysteries on recommended lists and just pick them up without checking to see if they're part of a series; I suck), but honestly this was one of the best mid-series reads I've found. I was able to easily pick up the story and the characters without a lot of backstory, and my read was so good that it's inspired me to check out the rest in the series from the library. A Good Killing definitely had a decent mystery aspect to it, but I liked this book more as a fiction; Anna and Jody's story was interesting and dynamic. The characters were well-written, the mystery was interesting, and the storyline and pacing was well-done. I'm excited to read the rest of the books in the series.
Cat Sitting & Cheerleading: Meet Anna Curtis
Meet Anna Curtis, this week's “Person We Envy!” hailing all the way from Zurich, Switzerland. From cheerleading and painting to cat sitting, Anna's up to some eclectic activities and we dig it all! Intrigued? Read on for more about Anna, including her latest obsessions, music envies, and Storenvy loves. Storenvy: Where are you from and where do you live now? Anna: I was born in New York and I’m half Welsh and half English, but I have lived here in Zurich, Switzerland for the past 12 years. Storenvy: What's your occupation?
Cat Collar Tips from pinpinfinds
Anna: I’m still in high school, but I have worked in a restaurant as a waitress and I’ve done a fair share of babysitting and even some cat sitting (best job I've ever had)! Storenvy: You have fantastic taste! How would you describe it? Anna: My taste ranges very wide. I go from grunge all the way to classy, but right now I really like floral dresses and other floral designs. Storenvy: What's your latest obsession? Anna: Recently I have been looking at jewelry, which, as it is, isn’t something I usually pay a lot of attention to. The jewelry I found is very simple. They are just different geometrical shapes, mostly triangles. Most of these are gold and my absolute favorites are the black triangular stud earrings dipped in gold paint. I especially love that you can wear them with whatever you want and they will still look great. Storenvy: What are you typically up to on your spare time? Anna: I cheerlead 2 or 3 times a week. The club I go to isn’t in the same city, so I spend a lot of my time on trains. If I have phone signal, I usually end up on various websites like tumblr and Storenvy. Otherwise, I spend a lot of my time (and money) on art and books. I love to draw and paint.
Storenvy: Create a mini playlist of your three favorite songs of the moment!
1. Frank Turner - Worse Things Happen At Sea
2. Ed Sheeran - I See Fire
3. Arctic Monkeys - Fluorescent Adolescent
Storenvy: Describe yourself in 3 words. Anna: Artistic, curious, self-aware Storenvy: 3 things you can't live without?
Pizza Phone Case from Vivid Please
Anna: Books, my laptop (I use it for everything), and pizza. Need I explain?
Storenvy: What's your spirit animal? Anna: The marten. All of the traits fit except not being a perfectionist. That comes up every now and then. Storenvy: Who's on the lineup of your dream music festival , and where would it be? Anna: Frank Turner, Ed Sheeran, Arctic Monkeys at Reading festival, but with fewer people (and cheaper tickets!). Storenvy: Favorite item in your closet? Anna: A floral pattern summer dress with open sides at the waist. Storenvy: What is your favorite envy and why?
Denim Dress from UZIP
Anna: UZIP's denim dress. It reminds me of a similar dress I had a few years back and it just looks lovely. Storenvy: Why did you join Storenvy? Anna: I found a really nice pair of studded heels on Tumblr and the source brought me to Storenvy. I like to collect ideas of what to get when I move back to England for university. Storenvy lets me keep track of everything I want or need and lets me divide them for more organization. It’s really easy to share with the friends I’ll be living with!
If you're interested, here's an early 9/11-themed short I made back in 2003 called After An Autumn Day That Felt Like Summer. It's an experimental comedy about a guy who uses 9/11 as an excuse for his bad behavior: not going to work, not doing anything when he's actually at his job and also cheating on his girlfriend with a sexy burlesque dancer.
One thing I've always liked about it is that midway through the movie, the dancer becomes the main character, as if the video's as annoyed with the protagonist as the viewer most likely is. And the dance performance is still pretty interesting to watch.
The movie stars Timur Kocak, Anna Curtis and Nicole Severine. The burlesque performance is by the Bombshell! Girls, which includes Rachael C. Smith and Anna King. And if you look closely, you can spot Oliver the cat in a couple of shots, since we used my old apartment on 22nd Street as a location for this video.
