BOTANY BLUEPRINT Seedpods illustrating the evolution of form and function Photography and narrative by Anna Laurent
Anna Laurent is a Los Angeles-based designer and writer, currently working on a series of educational plant-oriented media to advance botanic literacy. She studied evolutionary theory at Harvard University and graphic design at Massachusetts College of Art.
Each image is accompanied by a beautifully written essay. She introduces the seed pod project at her online portfolio:
Botany Blueprint is a study of seed pods—a plant’s fruits & seeds. Individually, each photograph is a fine art portrait of a unique botanic specimen; as a series, the collection becomes a visual and scientific inquiry into the diversity of botanic design.

[3] Specimen #20: Wood Rose (Merremia tuberosa) [Print]
Cultivated for its pods, the wood rose has navigated its way into a host of new environments, ... Once mature, the paper capsules are designed to float, fly, and tumble, thereby dispersing their seeds in a variety of useful ways....
Limited edition prints available through Laurent’s online shop. For more information on the project, visit her portfolio here.
