"Because of her massive success, in this moment there is a Taylor-shaped hole in people’s ethics,” a person close to the situation, who requested anonymity to speak candidly, told CNN. “This article wouldn’t have been allowed to be written about Shawn Mendes or any male artist whose sexuality has been questioned by fans.”

Oh really, Taylor Swift? You are one ignorant twat, aren't you? The very same writer, Anna Marks, wrote a piece for NYT speculating about Harry's sexuality back in August 2022!

sorry to perseverate on this but it's just so fucking ridiculous. in 2022 the exact same author, anna marks, wrote about harry styles:

In private, Mr. Styles could, of course, claim any — or many — of a spectrum of gender identities and sexual orientations. But the issue at hand is that Mr. Styles asks us to revel in his performance without giving us the key with which to unlock that performance’s true meaning. It’s worth asking why his door is locked.

In the face of [rising global anti-gay and anti-trans] hatred, Mr. Styles hasn’t chosen overt rebellion. He proposes an easy-to-swallow plea to “treat people with kindness.” It’s a tired platitude tone-deaf to 2022’s brand of bigotry.

If our community seeks true liberation, Mr. Styles’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” queerness must not be something to which we aspire. It should instead be something that we mourn. [...] No matter how he identifies, if Mr. Styles wishes to dance with our symbols, he would do well to pay more attention to their politics, regardless of whether he dreams with us of liberation.

so it's cool when your fave does it, but "something to mourn" and "not something to which we aspire" when an almost identically famous, similarly positioned rich white musician does it
