A different darkness PT 2
There...
From somewhere in this accursed place, she felt the first stroke of a tether against her very being. Felt as each strand of an invisible string was coiled and wrapped around her very being. It should have struck fear in her. Worry as to what was being connected to her so slowly and carefully. Yet those strands were familiar almost. Her very magic tolerating this connection being crafted rather than trying to destroy it. Like so many before.
Familiar. It had a simple ‘taste’ to it. Something she had longed to create but always failing to find her match. Each time the being would be rejected by her magic. Each time the elezen women was left to her own. But this time? Something here in this hell scape was her match. Gods and Goddess.
“This can’t be... here...?” Anna muttered softly to herself as she continued to look around. Searching for whatever lay on the other end of this bond. Though the connection was weak, in its infant stages, it had a pulsing power behind. Whatever this thing was, it was not a simple minded drown. This was something higher up. Something new.
Eyes finally found what she was looking for, even if in truth she did not quite know what it was she was searching for. The knight stood before her. Though not like the few she had seen from her prior... visits. This one was different. Elezen in nature. Built like those nobles that roamed the city of Ishgard like well-groomed dogs. A knight of old perhaps. Yet here? In the void. Why him? Why now?
One thing she knew for certain was she would not return to this place willingly. Even for a connection such as this. A familiar in simple terms. She left once... Once was enough.
“Keep bellowing and I will make you wait longer.” Her voice was sweet though she let the edge of annoyance reflect ever so slightly. This was her world, the vision, her domain to control. She would not be bullied here, nor would she allow this... man... to command it. As the edges of the vision flicked and danced, she took a step towards him. Following that connection that was being crafted oh so carefully between them. “It seems we are equals. The Gods and Goddess of new and old have deemed this so... knight? You appear as one, at the very least. Now is a bargain to be made? Or would you like to bellow more?”
That power began to come into view, that woman…her tone, he was staring deep at her a low snarl left his lips as he felt her command surge through the air. How…How could this fucking be. He had not run into another with such power. Those purple hued eyes mixed with the colors of the bright sky stared at her, entranced by her very movement. Even the ones who held power in this domain were not like this… They could not command such a simple word.
The knights’ words silenced; his mind raced as he debated on gripping the hilt of his sword…Did he dare strike her down. What was this. “Who…are you…” His words were spoken to himself, not loud enough to be heard, at least not at any distance. “What…are you.” He had been used to taking control here, taking hold and not letting go. He moved to step forward, he would not take commands from another… Never again... His eyes narrowed fighting back, yet it wasn’t enough… He was stopped in his tracks once more…
Stopped as if he was nothing, as if he had no strength to go against her, his nose crumpled for a moment before finally nodding his head at her words. “Knight will do for now…Witch.” It was the term that came to his mind, he wasn’t certain why that was the first thoughts, yet it is what he would call her… for the moment. “You label us as equals… Yet you clearly hold control over this domain, you speak of a bargain… then let us get on with it.” He felt that bond, felt that connection.
He had heard others speak of such things, had heard those in the void talk about being familiar. Of being at the beck and call of a Master…No control…Yet they always fulfilled their bargain lest they take control. He made a tsk sound for a moment before looking around. “I want out of here… I got what I came for, yet I do not seem to have the power to escape, or at least I had not found such power until today…” He stared for a long moment, he observed her, taking in her poise, in her power.
“The gods and goddess matter little… I don’t care for their petty squabbling. They sit amongst themselves…Pissing and moaning, and demanding others take care, while they fuck, drink, and care little of the rest.” He shook his head as he refocused on her. “A bargain… I want out of here, you want someone to draw power from…Of that I am certain… Yet, that is not enough. You will not find another with this power..”
He paused for a moment letting her search his aether, letting her feel something more. “You will not find another with such an offer..What year is it?” His words were calm, collected, no emotion sat within them now as his purple hued eyes remained upon her. “What world do you come from?”
“I hold control over this moment.” A casual shrug of her shoulders followed by a simple wave of her hand. A gesture in the area. “I hold control over the time and place of this vision. Of what is seen and heard and felt. Sometimes it is pleasant. Sometimes it is painful. Other times there is fear and doubt and cruelty beyond imagination. Yet, with all that said, I do control the ending. A snap of my fingers and I will return to my room upon the Source. While you are left in the Void.”
A brow was quirked up towards him. As she listened to him speak. Familiars did have an unnatural way of them. They could be equals or servants or tools to be used. Like that of her coven leader who was known for using up and discarding his familiars. An action she would not take if she ever gained one... And one she knew that this... knight... would not tolerate either.
For the Void’s beings were not like that of the Source. ‘Nor’ she thought ‘Was he like either of those things.’
“Well, aren’t you quick to jump.” She couldn’t help but grin towards this man, this knight. “Well, you are correct in my labeling. Witch. And correct what I seek. Power. Though I will not merely use you and discard you for my own gains. I said equal, did I not?” She tsked softly, shaking her head. The long, wind-swept locks fluttering around her neck and shoulders. “The year is 1st Year of the Seventh Astral Era... in the long terminology. We have had several Calamity throughout the years or near ones at that. Let the heroes be at that. For what I seek, however...”
Daring it, she turned away from him. Moving to the vine covered railing. Fingers of her right-hand gentle moving along the inky surface of the planet life here. “Power, yes. For whom among the living does not wish for more power? I also seek a means to start my own way. Away from a leader who has gone mad and seeking his own godhood. I seek to make a means for myself and remind people of who I am and what I am. I’ve no doubt you claim to power. I can feel it in my bones and within the ever-growing connection we share... which is why I call you an equal. For you are not a mindless beast to be summoned, used, and sent away. You are more and you could become more. With me.” She glanced over her shoulder at him. A smirk upon those painted red lips. “A bargain... sharing of power. Of gains for both. You get your freedom from this cursed place, and I get what I seek. A deal? Or do I end this vision and let you return to the Void hell you call home currently.”
Those words stopped him in his tracks, he stared at her, he watched her. “It…it can’t be...” her words on the year… He blinked for several moments. “I... Knew time flowed differently here… Yet only a year has passed...” He looked around searching for something as she made her way to the railing, his ears listened to her, his tongue flicked across his lower lip before moving to a small chest in the area. His fingers moved to produce a key, as he quickly fumbled to unlock it. Her words echoed in his mind…It had only been a year in the source… a year to his five in this hell.
“She…must be wrong...” He pulled out the small piece of parchment he had, it was all he had left from the source…He looked at the date upon it, his eyes staring at it as if it were to change. It didn’t…The date remained the same. He moved to stand once more, the stoic side of his expression remaining as he laid his eyes upon her, she spoke of him as an equal. This was good, he would not become a mindless husk to be used and thrown to the side, he would not be what others claimed they were.
“If…If the date you speak is true, then you are in luck…” He moved toward her, his hands slipping the sword from its scabbard as he laid it across the railing. Upon it she would see a family crest embossed upon it, the crest of a great house of Ishgard…Should she have kept up on the internal workings of Ishgard, she would recognize the family crest of House D’woulfe, whose head of house disappeared just a year ago, none had heard from him, and it had left much of his house in a disarray.
Should she have kept up on such things, she would have known that House D’woulfe was often known as a house of trouble. A house that went against the social norms, she may have even heard rumors that the duke of the house was a man of principle, a renowned swordsman, and an unparalleled leader. His purple hues stared toward her. “This is the bargain I offer… I want out of here, never to be sent back… Never to be thrown back here to drift senselessly… I want to learn to control my destiny should I be thrown back here as you have.”
He paused for a long moment. “With that, I will share power. I will restore my Houses name in Ishgard, at which point you will have access to all the funds, and power of a high house…” He paused once more staring at her as if debating the next point, if she held her end… his next offer would be to ensure that she didn’t back out. “We are dragon riders… My house resides outside the city, and we live amongst Dragon Kin…. So, should you ensure I never come back here…Then you have power, funding, and a dragon egg will be provided for you to bind with and I will teach you to ride it.”
His words were straight and to the point, he knew that getting out of the void required a mass amount of energy expenditure. He knew that the price would be great, yet he simply could not standby and let this chance slip through his fingers. He needed this to work. The sword that laid upon the railing seemed to glow brightly with his power, as he awaited her response.
Keeping it a family cast. 💙💚💜
