Wow, thanks, everyone for the advice on the Pern books!  I didn't realize that there was such a strong following for them.  I'm pretty excited about reading them after I finish this Arthurian series...  I read the Harper Hall trilogy a while back, having no idea that they were a part of a bigger thing.  I think that I will be able to get a lot more out of those three stories by reading them in the context of the whole Pern world.
