Am I working on Royals/Ramblers? No. Am I writing one-off short fics based on AO3 comments? Might be!
@annechen-melo pointed out that in Fete, Eddie asks Gregory what passes for diner food in Shivadh culture, and Gregory replies Eddie might know better than he would, meanwhile a book later we find out about Shivadh Fried Breakfast, which is clearly exactly the kind of food Eddie would want to know about. I was like “Haha yeah he maybe just didn’t think about it” and then I realized Eddie’s reaction and...wrote a short story in comments. :D
---
Gregory wasn't aware Eddie had even gone out for breakfast until he heard his name called, looked up from his desk, and was pelted in the head with something cold and greasy. It bounced off and fell to his desk, where it turned out to be a fried chicken wing.
Eddie stood in the doorway. He looked incensed.
"I don't know what I did," Gregory said carefully, "but whatever made you just throw a chicken wing at my head, I'm sorry I did it."
"Fried breakfast," Eddie announced. Gregory gave him a mystified look. "I have lived here for FIVE MONTHS, Greg, I have fried so much food in your kitchen, five months' worth of fried food, and I had to discover Shivadh fried breakfast for myself. I'm DATING THE SHIVADH KING AND -- "
"Okay, okay, message received," Gregory said, holding up his hands, one of which still held the chicken wing.
"Message NOT received! I asked you about diner food! You said you didn't know!"
"Well, I mean," Gregory began, then ducked pre-emptively as Eddie took another chicken wing out of the bag in his hands. Instead of throwing it, he sat down at Gregory's desk and began eating it. "It's not diner food per se. It's. You know. It's beach food."
"How have you gone five months without ever once taking me out for fried breakfast?" Eddie asked. "How do you live in a country where you can just say to someone 'fried breakfast' and they serve you a full meal, and not eat it at least once a week?"
"Well, it's not great for the cardiac health," Gregory said carefully, "and as you say you've fried a lot of food for me, so...I wasn't really missing it."
"I literally built my career on the kind of place that will serve me hash browns and fried mushrooms and fried dumplings on top of the mushrooms all on one fast-disintegrating paper plate!" Eddie seethed.
"I could go for some fried mushrooms," Gregory said thoughtfully. Eddie seethed harder. "Okay, okay. I am sorry. It didn't occur to me. I don't eat it a lot! And your food was so good I didn't miss it."
Eddie subsided a little at that, but he waved the surviving portion of his chicken wing as he spoke.
"I will accept your apology, conditionally," he said. "Tomorrow is Saturday and I want you to take me to the best Fried Breakfast place you know of."
"Well, it won't be wherever you went today," Gregory said. Eddie frowned at him. "Traditional fried breakfast shacks don't serve chicken wings. They think it's bougie."
"....you let me get BOUGIE fried breakfast?" Eddie yelled.
"Did you get a sufganiyah with it?" Gregory asked.
"No! Was I supposed to?"
"Well, you have to order it King's Touch, if you do that they give you the donut, or they're supposed to anyway. It's because dad likes a jelly donut."
Eddie stared at him. "So you're telling me that not only did I get bougie fried breakfast, I could have had a jelly donut on top of it?"
"I need you to remember that you love me and I'm taking you out for fried breakfast tomorrow," Gregory said.
"Oh, now you're not just taking me for fried breakfast, we're going on a tour," Eddie said. "You're taking me to at least three different fried breakfasts."
"Three," Gregory repeated faintly.
"I no longer trust you to actually know where the best fried breakfast is. I'm texting your dad and Jerry and Alanna to ask them," Eddie said, texting literally as he spoke. "I will also be asking Simon, who will probably swear at me in French. We are going to do a tourism video entirely based around fried breakfast, because the world needs to know and you, king of this entire country, are falling down on the job."
"Well, that's why I have you," Gregory reasoned. "I'll, you know, pass the tax reforms, you tell the world about how we...miraculously don't die of heart disease in our thirties after being raised on fried breakfast."
Eddie's phone beeped. He looked down at it.
"Your dad says he won't tell me unless I sign an NDA," he said.
"Man's got to protect his access to sufganiyot," Gregory remarked. "Please don't throw chicken wings at him."
"I save all my ballistic chicken wings for you," Eddie informed him, sighing and getting up. He leaned across the desk to kiss Gregory where the wing had hit him in the forehead. "You are a hopeless case and I love you."
"You are the weirdest person I know and I love you too," Gregory said. "Go, enjoy your bougie chicken wings."
"Tomorrow morning! Bright and early, fried breakfast!" Eddie announced as he left. Gregory sighed and made a note to weasel out of his father the name of his favorite fry shack. If Dad wanted him married off, he had a vested interest in keeping Eddie happy.
Drabble 27, Barbarshop Quartet. Hard mode: it's not Natasha.
27. I'm pregnant
Alright let's do this
Every year, they gather for what ends up as a Foodgasm Extraordinaire for Christmas, Hannukah and just because.
This year though, they really outdid themselves: roasted lamb and confied duck, rôtisserie potatoes and green beans just to have the "excuse" of vegetables, and latkes with applesauce and sour cream to top it all off.
"I'm pregnant--gjfkzk," Bucky groans, his words flying out of the window when Alpine comes to sit on his stretched belly.
"Oh, babe," Natacha says, sitting upside down on the couch, her legs in the air and head on Steve's lap, "good for you."
Sam chuckles lazily, eyes closed already as he snuggles up to Steve's free side. "That was epic."
Steve nods before smacking his lips. "I wouldn't mind a sliver of chocolate swiss roll though."

I *didn't* have feelings, but now I have horrible, no-birth-control-is-100-percent-reliable-in-all-circumstances, accidental pregnancy and (obviously) they're both pro-choice, but Steve secretly *wants* the baby and knows the risk is too great feelings. (And then maybe they end up adopting later on).
Ooo I like this though. Maybe Steve even loses the baby like Tony does in CN (his unwell body makes the decision for him) and then is surprised by how devastated he is since having kids wasn’t something they’d at all planned. And Tony’s trying to figure out if it’s understandably upsetting because it was a real life they were growing, even if it was scary and unintentional, or if this goes beyond that, and Steve is realizing that he actually really wants kids. But he’s also so terrified of what could happen to Steve if he carried to term that he isn’t sure if he’d agree even if Steve wanted it more than anything else.

Tony being reluctant to have kids (both because it could hurt Steve and he's afraid of being a poor father) might be enough to keep them childless until they find the orphaned (or kicked out) kid living in the library?
Aaaand then they find a kid in the library. Lmao. Or something... I do love writing babies soooo much, though, so an older kid means I don’t get to write my fav bits 🤔
Scooter was the guy in my class who wore Mardi Gras beads and Chucks with his tux to prom (Nashville in the mid-80's).
I knew a couple of different Scooters, including a friend in grade school, and my best friend’s gay uncle’s boyfriend (man, that’s convoluted to say... but... her Uncle Scooter is one of the best men I’ve ever met. Kind and generous and just wonderful)
Turkey pepperoni and some fresh mozz might be nice with that.
Yeah, it definitely needed more stirred-in cheese, and if I’d had any pepperoni I for sure would have stirred some in. I think it would also do nicely with some sausage or sauteed mushrooms.

If you cook some onion in the pot before adding your sauce, and add peas with the pasta, you can say you've had Vegetables
Ah, peas would ruin the whole dish for me, though. I did think about adding in onion -- I keep caramelized onions in the freezer and could have nuked some and stirred them in -- but I really wanted the garlic to come through this time.

On one hand I'm (in principle) all for the democratisation of finance. Everyone's getting their hands on a slice of the pie. On the other hand, it seems like an inherently destabilising phenomenon ... Especially with meme stocks.
Well, and I think while your concern is valid I’d like to reframe it slightly -- I think the real concern is less that everyone is now able to participate, and more that our economic setup itself is so fragile that allowing everyone to participate destabilizes it so easily. The fact that a “meme stock” can be created in the first place is a flaw in the system, not a flaw of access to the system. I think it’s a deliberately designed flaw -- a bug that was considered a feature when only the powerful had access.
I don’t have a solution -- I leave that to smarter and more well-educated people than I -- but any structure that can’t reasonably withstand basic equal access wasn’t a good structure to begin with. Some people are always going to try to game any system, but gaming the system isn’t the problem. The problem is the fact that the system was so very easily gamed. And, like you do I think, I don’t believe restricting access is going to fix that.
Six Harvests? Not especially -- the protagonist and his wife are both straight, and it’s set in a small town in Texas in the 1930s with all that entails. There is a secondary character, the protagonist’s sister, who is a lesbian, but that really only comes into play in the last third or so of the book, and isn’t a major plot thread (she’s not living in the town for most of her story).
Nameless is significantly more gay; it’s not especially overt, like there’s no sex scenes or anything, but it’s very clearly a love story between two men who are both excruciatingly bad at being in love.

Is it Bunburying if you didn’t invent the dying relative 🤔
BUNBURY BY PROXY. Even funnier!

I just switched to A&H litter because the store was out of my regular one, and my cats L O V E it. Like 'enthusiastically tossing it everywhere' love it. Which is not awesome, but what IS awesome is that the litter clumps like a motherfucker, so. Pros and cons.
It might just be a function of A&H litter, too -- mine also like to kick it everywhere, especially when I’ve just refilled the box. Polk will get in and kick litter out of the box until the level is precisely to her liking, and then Deebs will go garden in it for half an hour, the little filth monsters.

The annoying thing is that each time I see that ask I get tempted to find out if the fic mentioned actually exists because bile fascination
So the good news is
[Description: A screengrab of AO3 search results; the search was for tags Mpreg, Jesus Christ, and Seahorses, and there are no results found.]
Not to be judgey, but the unsettling news is that if you remove “Seahorses” you get seven hits. Now, only two of those are Pregnant Jesus, but both are Pregnant Jesus in an A/B/O AU, and I read them both with my own two eyeballs, and I blame you.

I know it would be treif as all get out to use the onion jam I have in the fridge (which has bacon in it) but what about a savory version with caramelized onions?
I’ve definitely seen savory Hamantaschen before! I will say I wouldn’t use the cookie recipe -- if you’re going to use something like caramelized onions, I’d use pie crust and essentially make little onion tarts.

my partner and I argued over the term and settled on octameter, but tetrameter is probably the technical term or something
Well, technically it could be -- I mean it’s four feet to a line so two lines together is eight. I actually had to google tetrameter because I always want to say quadrameter and I always know that’s wrong, but I never remember the right term.

One of my favorite experiences was reading a fic of yours on a new platform where it turns out I didn't notice the Next Chapter button. So I read a Remus/Tonks chapter 1 that I thought was very nice... but had no idea there was more for AGES. It had seemed complete, if short, one encounter that could have been so much more, but apparently wasn't meant to be... but WAS. Oops?
Oh yeah -- that’s Amid My Solitude, I bet. It actually was a one-off, and then I added a bunch more, but not for a while after. So the story does have a distinct sense of “closure” in the first chapter, which you probably picked up on.

Watch it, Sam - you are close to becoming the protagonist in a Hallmark series.
I still need to find or make myself a copy of this shirt:
