ANNIE AND RIO MARRIED YES OH MY GOD THAT WOULD BE SO FUNNY

everything about rio and annie being forced into marriage-for-legal- purposes would be The Worst and by that i mean it would be The Best:

naturally rio thinks it would be easier to just kill annie than marry her so that she can't testify against him but that wouldn't go over too well with elizabeth and he's been trying to get back in her pants good graces so.

annie was done with crime! she was out! she was leaving it all behind! she even came clean to ben and greg and she was moving on with her life! and now she has to move in with gang friend? and pretend to like him? to love him? are you crazy!?!

g-d can you imagine them trying to cohabitate?? with his neatly organized everything and her trash-littered coffee table?

(and where does ben live?? does he move in with rio? oh i bet he would love it there. they would get along fabulously and annie would HATE it.)

annie looking up at rio with a scowl and saying, "we are NOT consummating this marriage, buddy. you've already had sex with one marks sister too many!"

rio being offended that she thinks he would even consider it.

both of them being physically incapable of not grimacing when they have to hold hands or put their arms around each other or pretend like they like each other in any way whatsoever.

beth trying to mediate by showing up at rio's place and cleaning up after annie and bringing casseroles or baked goods and it not working at all because 1. rio hates when people don't clean up their own messes and 2. annie thinks rio has a stick up his ass and she won't stop telling him so and "what are you gonna do about it mr. murder face, huh? you can't kill me! first suspect is always the husband! suck it!"

stan actually thinks the situation is so funny that he almost considers moving back to detroit just to watch it go down

at some point a video game console is brought in. this both improves and worsens matters, depending on the day

they find common ground in their feelings about deansie

the first time beth shows up and they're not on the verge of killing each other, just laughing and almost enjoying each other's company, she feels a pang of jealousy so fierce she leaves without even making up an excuse (because she's dumb enough to think that maybe they're starting to like each other, and not just, you know, bond over how much they love her)

obviously it all eventually resolves itself and annie and rio cement their big bro/lil sis relationship by the time rio and beth finally get together

but whew the journey to get there is hilarious (for those of us watching, for them it's painful—very, very painful)

Annie and Rio arguing over who gets to control the iPod doesn't sound dumb at all. It sounds cute!

oh that's not the dumb part and i maybe might have worded that post in a way that was purposely misleading (they're not fighting over who gets to control the music exactly) but thank you! i am having so much fun writing an annie who is increasingly less and less afraid of rio as he starts to become a real person to her, as well as a rio who comes to genuinely care about annie as more than just an extension of beth.

i think in canon, he probably knows that annie has a kid. but i also think that so much has happened since he showed up in beth’s kitchen that first time looking for his money, and pretty much all of his attention has been on beth for so long now (including that time that annie and ruby specifically owed him and beth wasnt even a part of it) that i dont think its unreasonable to assume that annie’s personal life does not take up any space in his brain at all haha

i also think its entirely possible that all he did was find out their names and where they lived and because annie is obviously younger — really, just more youthful and silly? flighty? in general — than beth and ruby, it wouldn’t be all that weird to assume that her reason for doing crime is more about just wanting money, than needing to support a family like the other two, you know?

my own personal headcanon is some mix of the two— he was probably given that information by one of his boys at some point but it has nothing to do with how he can best get under beth’s skin so his brain immediately went irrelevant and he never thought about it again haha
