I paint a lot in the Touraine Vineyards near my cottage in the Loire Valley. This is a winter painting, the viticulteurs were pruning and the fading afternoon sun caught the vines turning the sky and land orange

Rough Seas at Whitstable, Ann Palmer

I arrived in Whitstable with skies looking threatening, just set up and down came the ran, so I packed up and put my easel back in the car, went for a coffee and the rain stopped. Out again and just fished before it rained again; I love this sort of weather for painting the sea! Oil on canvas, palette knife painting 16" x 16" framed in light wood box frame

Beach Huts and Boats 2, Ann Palmer

I have been painting ‘en plein air’ in Whitstable for several years, standing on the pebbly beach watching the tide ebb and flow, the light on the horizon, the clouds coming in from the west over London, and the light out to sea to the north and east, as the low tide exposes sandbanks, pebbles, seafood for the gulls to seek. This is a studio looking up the beach towards the Harbour and boats incorporating all my past experiences in this beautiful spot.

Sunny Day and back in the Vineyards, Ann Palmer

I am a plein air artist and enjoying a summer's day back in the Touraine Vineyards after a long summer in UK. I dashed out to paint the lovely green foliage before autumn sets in. The grapes are ready for picking, birds are singing, my favourite is the woodpecker which lives in the small woodland on the right of where I am standing. This painting is a palette knife painting oil on 12oz cotton duck prepared by myself; framed in a white box frame.

Sunset at Low Tide, Ann Palmer

I have been painting in Whitstable for several years and have many images and stories in my head which I love to reproduce on canvas. I hope this painting will transport the viewers to my world of sun, sand, surf and the wonderful changing east coast skies so enjoyed by Turner. I have been painting in oils for many years now, learning to use the palette knife 7 years ago I have developed my own style of impasto work and brighter colours.
