Hi, I am the same anon who asked you about L's methods. Thank you so much for answering. That was a fun read, and I share the same opinion. The only difference is that I view his talk with children at Wammy's differently. But that is a different thing, and your take was also interesting. I would love to talk about L, but he is a complex character, and I am not very good at articulating my thoughts. But still, I will send some asks in the future if you are ok with it. We can talk about his character in bits and pieces.

Finally, you were so right that people view characters as they want to view them. No matter what the actions are. And there IS ambiguity in L at some places, so I keep myself open to many different views. But people sometimes try to change even those incidents where the motive of character is very much straightforward. (Well, or maybe those incidents are only like that to me and not to them ^^;). But still, some takes in their character analysis feel weird to me. Do you also feel the same about some? If yes, then I would love to know what those are. Thank you for your efforts once again. You are such a sweet person.

Hello Dear Anon! Aww, you are sweet, too! Thank you for sending the ask! I love talking about L and tend not to say much anymore because I don’t see him the way others do. I’m always interested in ppl’s interpretations of the “That Monster” speech, so if you would like to share, please do. I like when others see something in it beyond face value. I feel like a lot of takes are weird at times for many characters, especially L. Here are some that always set oddly with me:

That he doesn’t care about anyone but himself. I’m just not sure where that comes from.

I know this is a little thing, but it still bothers me is that he doesn’t share food and is really selfish about his sweets. Like, we see him share food canonically and I always took that as it was his way of trying to connect to people.

That he is a slob that doesn’t shower. This is a huge one for me because it seems so ooc.

That he only ever eats sweets and has never eaten anything else. Umm…how would that be possible?

That he didn’t care about the Successors is canon. I think it would be fair to say any HC either way about his feelings towards them would be nothing but speculation since what we get of him and the successors is practically non-existent.

That he is a liar and that makes him a bad, horrible, irredeemable character. He lies to his suspects and to get information. I feel like that is a requirement of the job. I get that Ohba calls him a liar in HTR:13, but have you ever met a detective before? They aren't going to tell their suspect the truth. They're gathering evidence, like???

There are more, but these are the ones that came to mind immediately. I would love to know what yours are!😊
