I see your messages and I see your points of view. But I have to tell you right now, the line where I said I would rather them have raped each other is not condoning rape.
I am a victim of sexual assault. It happened multiple times when I was a teenager and has had lasting scars on my attitude towards men. I have friends who have been raped. This is a horrible experience and not something ANYONE should have to experience.
I still stand by what I wrote. DG wrote the mutual rape, do I like it? No. It's horrible and uncomfortable. Nearly everyone in the books are raped: Jamie, Claire, Fergus, Bree, Young Ian.... its one of the ways DG introduces drama into the books.
If they'd have shown something more uncomfortable for us to watch and something that showed this wasn't about love, but a blackmail then okay. But they didn't. Yes Jamie goes because he was blackmailed, but they didn't have to make it romantic. The writers flipped that scene on its head to bring us back to Jamie and Claire's connection, or lack thereof currently. It's undermining Claire and Jamie's relationship to parallel it that much.
So no. I won't be changing my view on this. If it's going to happen, please make it so it's not redeeming for a character that shouldn't be redeemed. Next we'll have Laoghaire and Jamie sex/marriage being wonderful. No. No no no no no.
