sorry to bother you but i don't really have any active writer friends, but anyway am i fucking crazy or has ao3 been absolutely riddled with bot comments lately? like i swear there's been a huge surge lately it's ridiculous

No, it's not just you. They've been horrendous for a year and a half now. Some of them are generic, like 'good fic' or just a few heart emojis, or you'll get a massive wall of text written by some AI bot telling you your writing sucks and to kill yourself. It's awful.

But, if you make it so that moderated comments go through, people choose not to comment at all. It's really an uphill battle and writers can't win. I know a few writers who just...stop checking comments altogether because not only have comments basically become non-existent, the ones you DO get are probably 70% bots. Even if you lock your fics, it doesn't stop the bot comments.

AO3 is trying to combat them but when you can spoof emails and stuff, it makes it hard to distinguish who is real or fake. Especially since people can literally *take your own name* and then leave asshole AI-written comments. It's a whole mess.

That said PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. Writers need comments more than ever. Good ones, long ones, thoughtful ones. Let us know we're not just writing into a void anymore. Tell us what you liked, sentences that stuck out, parts that made you feel anything, good or bad. In an age where everything is bots and scammers and Ai, we need human contact more than ever.

My thoughts on the recent ending, is that Mister Asagiri is a character writer, not a plot writer. His best works are ones that are focused primarily on exploring/writing the characters. This recent arc has suffered due to it straying from his strengths and laying in his weaknesses. I feel like Mister Asagiri had written himself into a corner that forced this big climatic satisfying ending that he just couldn’t deliver and it suffered for it.

yeahh this whole big climax felt lofty and a mess. when everyone is one-upping each other like that eventually it gets too high. i felt the same when watching jojos part 6 which, with no spoilers, also seems to get into a corner and then has this huge high-stakes climax which they get out of it by pulling what i think is a dumb uninteresting cop-out. i hope that with 130 being the end of "part 1" that they don't somehow pull something similar bc atp it's very possible. i love bsd lots :( which makes this extra disappointing.
