Fast forward years later and she pregnant with his baby’s, (twins). And yall know that Feitan is a very wanted man (indeed he is) and they’re is a lot of people trying to claim the bounty on his head, so to get to him that have to hit where it hurts most. His family. So they kill his 7 month pregnant wife. And he’s heartbroken and years ago by and they’re stealing some old shit from in abandon underground library Or sum. And then Chrollo find a mysterious book with a ominous black cover, and he reads the context of it, and all of a sudden a portal opens beneath the whole troupe, and they get transported to a different dimension where the Feitan in that dimension has a 5 month pregnant wife. And the Feitan that lost his wife decides, he wants his wife back so he decides to steal the other Feitan’s wife………. Yall se my vision???
warnings: idk vaugely yandere & self indulgent. lol. f reader. not proofread. 1.2k words. Header image unrelated I was too lazy to make a new one haha.
The only additional light to aid his vision is a lamp on the bedside drawer, one you thrifted with a poorly painted statuette of the virgin Mary at the base. An angel was also supposed to be there, you’d mentioned, but by nature of the lamp being secondhand, it had been torn off or broken at some point. Only its feet remained.
Phinks isn’t sure why you still have it. He’s offered to get you a new one, something nicer or even the same type of lamp with the angel attached, but you’d turned him down.
He learned early on that he needed to think a little more “outside the box” with his gifts.
You were a good girlfriend. You didn’t leave your apartment too much, you usually had a meal ready, and you let him crash at your place. The sex was good, though he really needed to talk to you about your quietness. Drawing anything more than a whine out of you was like pulling teeth. Most importantly, though, you didn’t ask a lot of questions. As far as he was concerned, things were going good between you two. Better than it’d ever gone with any of his other relationships.
So why the hell did you have an unsaved number texting you, telling you how beautiful you were?
He holds your phone in one hand, sitting at the edge of your bed with your back to you. Your sidelying form is on the opposite end, facing away and sleeping. You’d given him very little reason to doubt you throughout the relationship. If anything, he’d had a tinge of worry for how guileless you were with your affairs. He didn’t mind if you accepted him in full, and took what he said at face value, but anyone else would jump on that trait to take advantage of it.
Your phone’s background was a picture of a stray cat you two had seen once. Despite how much you cooed at and pet the thing, you turned down his offer to take the cat home, stating that it probably had a family. He’s not sure how you came to that conclusion; something about its fur being shiny. Anyone stupid enough to let their cat out into the street deserved having it taken, he thought. It’s face is obscured by the notifications that litter the lockscreen.
“I was looking at old pictures of us. You were so beautiful.”
Another text comes on the screen. 3 Attachments.
“I miss you a lot. I don’t know what happened to you.”
Should he wake you up and make you explain yourself? The concept of you cheating on him seemed extremely out of character, it was already an uphill battle to get you as his girlfriend in the first place. But perhaps that’s part of the problem–you’re so passive that you might’ve just gone along with whatever guy came while Phinks was out on a mission. Or it’s some crazy ex-boyfriend.
Who, for some reason, hasn’t gotten the hint that you’re with a new man?
His jaw clenches and unclenches, and he looks over his shoulder at you. Still sleeping, none the wiser that he’s caught you red-handed. Sure, he wouldn’t exactly give himself a “Boyfriend of the Year” award, but cheating on him was unwarranted. He’s done a lot for you, you know? He suppresses the urge to shake you out of your sleep, biting the inside of his cheek momentarily.
…Why is he even getting so worked up over this? A committed relationship only opens him up to problems with his line of work. He could just snap your neck, or maybe he could ignore it. You two have a convenient thing going: you make food and put out for him, he makes sure your bills are paid and keeps other guys away from you (though that last part hasn’t been made known to you, yet).
No, it was a matter of respect, he decides.
He taps in your password, one he’s memorized from before you’ve even started dating. The phone screen shakes slightly and he has to retype it. Did you change your fucking password? His eye twitches and he retypes it, agitation building up. This time, he’s taken to the homescreen.
Ah. He just typed it in wrong.
Tapping into the messages, he selects the unsaved number. There are no previous conversations–you must’ve been deleting them to cover your tracks. The attached photos give him pause, and he looks at them while the person on the other end keeps typing.
It’s you. Or at least, he assumes it’s you. You can’t be older than 9 in most photos, hugging and clinging to a woman that he presumes is your mother. He can vaguely see the resemblance, but she seems taller based on the pictures. Maybe if he held the photo side-by-side with you, the current you. She’s smiling too. Her eyeliner is dark and her brows have a much more pronounced arch than yours, then and now.
“Are you coming home for Christmas this year?”
You look happy in the pictures. He’s not sure if he’s ever seen you smile so wide before. She’s still typing.
“I know you’re seeing my texts.”
“Have you called your dad recently?”
Another picture is sent. You’re a little older in this, but not by much. It’s a picture of just you, posed in front of a house with your hands behind your back. Your expression is subdued, but still smiling.
“You were so pretty. Your aunt bought you that dress. Don’t know why you only wore it once.”
“Your dad told me you moved to the city. Don’t know why you still talk to him but not me. He never wanted to see you when you were a baby.”
For once, Phinks is glad he didn’t follow his instinct to crush a windpipe. An awkward relationship with your mother is forgivable. Though, she seemed like the type to pry. That might become a problem, if you ever decided to reconnect.
“Hello?”
“You are incredibly immature and ungrateful. I don’t know why I am trying with you. You can’t even text me back. Ok. You can stay there for Christmas, do not come home. I won’t have anything for you.”
…No wonder you didn’t have her number saved. He swipes to delete the conversation, then goes back to block the number first before doing so. You didn’t need to know about this, though he’s sure you’d thank him for the favor anyway.
Of course you weren’t cheating on him. What was he thinking? He feels stupid for getting so bothered by the messages. Phinks looks back over his shoulder at you, and you’re still asleep, hair splayed out on the pillow. The virgin Mary on the lamp looks despondently his way, palms up and open, as if to prove she has nothing to hide.
Maybe he can replace the lamp for you on one of the days you’re out of the apartment. An apology of sorts, for his doubting you, not that he’d come and outright say that he thought you’d be stupid enough to cheat on him. With that, he turns your phone off, setting it on the nightstand.
Before he can let himself go to sleep, Phinks moves the lamp so that the statuette is facing the other way, then turns the rotary lightswitch on the cord to cut the light off.
I was at college today, waiting for my Uber to arrive
Out of nowhere, one of my professors walked up to me and said, “Hey, Bru!! I wanted to tell you something I forgot to mention. You have a blog, right? You write Hunter x Hunter fanfics!! I honestly admire your writing”
I immediately froze. Completely static
So I replied, “Oh, thank you!! Which one did you read?”
And he answered, “I read that Kurapika one of yours (the Yandere one), along with a few others and… honestly, it never crossed my mind that your writing could be so… intense and dark at times”
And i just saw you replying to another ask that you have many drafts.
Pls lock in❤️ (I need my dose of brutal yandere Phinks content)
Lil sneak peek of something I’m almost done with just for U 🥰 (I think it’s sitting at around 1.6k word count ((And I do have future plans for it if people do actually enjoy it)))
Hey everyone!! The Yandere Phinks Magcub x Reader one-shot has already been posted here!!
I went through some stressful issues earlier… I simply added a few images throughout the read (you guys know I usually do that) and Tumblr just straight up hidden the fic—even though they were BLURRED AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, lool!!
So I had to remake the whole post from scratch.
Hello, I hope you're doing well. I'm new here and I just want to say I love your writing. My request is if you could do a oneshot of hxh Kite x fem reader where the reader is the daughter of Ging? And how Ging and Gon react to this
Isn't She Lovely
Synopsis: Being Ging's Daughter in love with Kite
It wasn't something Ging necessarily planned for. He never envisioned fathering a kid. He couldn't imagine he'd be any good at it. All the whining and crying that came with it. But sure enough, he had a son. And a little before that, he had you. Even though he didn't like the idea of kids, he dreaded the thought of a daughter even more. Just his luck he was stuck with one.
He convinced himself a girl would be soft. Wouldn't be able to handle herself in his line of work. In his mind, women tended to be emotional, and Ging was the furthest thing from being in touch with his feelings. Then you were born and something shifted inside him.
From the moment you were born, he'd been your world. You always reached for him. Always babbled and giggled when he'd hold you. It was a shame he had a falling out with your mother, but a small part of him was grateful he kept custody.
Sure he wasn't the world's greatest dad. He had his faults for sure. Lack of responsibility was one of them. But he cared for you in his own way. Yeah, he would cringe and complain when you cried and got snot on his clothes. However, he also saved an endangered species of wolf you really liked. He even offered you a pup as a pet, which you rejected because you knew your father would hate the idea of one tagging along. He forgot your birthday, but he let you come with him to an abandoned temple and pick out whatever treasure you wanted.
He remembers when you were ten (you might've been 11) being with him on one of his hunts. You were always fascinated with his work, wanting him to tell you the history of the places he excavated. This time was no different. Right in the middle of him explaining what the hieroglyphics meant, the building started shaking. He wasted no time rushing towards the exit, hearing the ceiling collapse behind him. As he turned around to ask if you were okay, his heart had dropped to his stomach. You weren't with him.
It was the first and last time he let himself be scared. If you died because of him, he never would have forgiven himself. His kid, his pride and joy, his baby girl, gone because of his carelessness. But then he heard it. He heard you.
“Daddy I'm scared,” you called out. It was faint, but besides the shakiness of your voice, there was no indication you were injured.
It was like a divine hand reaching out. A glimmer of hope he could get you and you'd be fine. It was all he needed.
“It's gonna be okay. Can you move?” Ging asked. He heard you sniffle before responding.
“Yes.”
You weren't trapped. You weren't hurt either, not badly at least.
“Can you follow the sound of my voice?”
He heard shuffling from behind the rubble. A dragging sound that got closer and closer. Good.
“I'm gonna lift up the wall, okay? See if you can crawl through.”
“O-okay.”
He grabbed the biggest piece and used his nen to help lift it up. It wasn't like he needed much effort to pick the debris up, he just had to concentrate on it not cracking and trapping you further. He heard more shuffling. Soon enough he could see your head poke through. It was then he used one hand to pull you free.
He'd never forget the feeling of you clinging to him. Fear and panic radiating off you. You were shaking to the point of tears. He clung to you too. This was why he never wanted a kid. You were a weakness. A soft spot that could be exploited. Yet despite it, he allowed himself to be vulnerable, if only for a moment.
“You're not hurt?” He asked.
You shook your head against him
“No…I'm sorry.” You cried. “All your work- it's-it’s gone.”
“Doesn't matter,” Ging brushed off.
He realized he might've been right. This line of work wasn't safe for kids. Untrained kids. So when he inevitably made the same mistake twice, he figured Gon was better off with his aunt. Away from this world. Away from you. He figured he would tell you about him in the future. Maybe send him your way when he was old enough. If he decided to follow in Ging's footsteps, that is.
At the time though, he made it a point to teach you nen. You weren't a fan. He tried to make it fun for you. Even helped you develop an ability with video game mechanics. (He was more excited about it than you) You had a somewhat lonely childhood. There was no formal schooling on Whale Island when Ging was growing up. So he figured he'd just teach you everything himself the way he learned. Not like he had the time to enroll you, with both of you being on the move constantly.
It was practically a miracle when he came across another kid in the sewers. He didn't really talk much, not at first. It took a lot of prodding, but eventually Ging learned his name was Kite. You were off buying supplies at the time, so it was the perfect opportunity for Ging to scout out a good camping place. And it seemed promising before he was smothered by dogs. But that's besides the point.
“You have any friends?” He asked the white haired kid.
Kite shook his head ‘no.’
“Great!”
Kite sent him a confused look. One that had Ging stumbling over his words to explain himself. He didn't want him getting the wrong idea or anything. (It looked really bad)
“Uh, not that it's great for you. But it's great for me!”
Kite made a move to back away slowly.
“No -I meant-! I have a daughter and she doesn't really have any friends either. She likes animals. She's also not squeamish, so you don't have to worry about her complaining about the place.”
“Is she anything like you?”
The question hit Ging like a truck. You weren't at that teenage phase yet when all girls wanted to do was waste money. (Which he unfortunately had ample amounts of and would most definitely fold if you asked). So you weren't alike in that regard. But he couldn't deny you'd turned into a mini replica with his attitude. You had a short fuse, made even shorter because no one took you seriously. He thought it was funny when you got mad, right before you bit him in retaliation. There was also the fact other kids your age didn't find you the most agreeable. You played rough. Made competitive thanks to Ging refusing to go easy on you. (He didn't want to lose to a child) You also didn't have a filter. You'd point and ask why people looked the way they did, which he may have encouraged with his laughter, but that didn't mean you were exactly like him.
“People say she's got a mouth like me, but I don't personally see it.” Not a complete lie.
Kite thought on it for a second, not completely trusting Ging. He supposed there was no harm in meeting you. More so to get Ging off his back than anything.
“It's not the only reason I want you to meet her though. You have potential. All great hunters are well liked by animals,” Ging further justified.
And maybe he knew that as a fact because he'd accidentally lost you when you were five, only to see a bear guarding you with its cubs. But the important thing was you weren't eaten!
It took you a few hours to find your father, and when you did, you weren't exactly happy with him. Why he chose a sewer of all places, you'd never understand. Not until he moved to the left and revealed a boy with white hair.
“Look what I've got here!” He cheered, much to your dismay.
“Dad, whose kid is this?” You watched unimpressed as the boy fidgeted under your gaze.
“New pupil.”
Bullshit.
“You don't like teaching.” You pointed out
“Because you were such a buzzkill!” Your father, a grown man, whined. “Look, just play nice. Okay? He’s got dogs~” Ging tried to entice. And judging by the way your eyes lit up, it worked.
“Really? What kind?”
Kite fought off a smile at your question. It'd been a while since anyone took a genuine interest in him. Human anyways.
“Well they're all strays…”
You two hit it off ever since. It was almost surprising how well you worked together. You seemed to take more of an interest in nen now that Kite was learning. Often challenging him in practicing techniques. And when you'd inevitably beat him (which you made sure to rub in his face), he was always a good sport. He never fought with you like other kids. Ging thought he might've been biting his tongue because you were his daughter. However, it looked like Kite genuinely wanted your company. He let you brag and boast all you wanted without getting annoyed, even congratulating you on occasion. And when you got weirded out he wasn't giving you a reaction, he apologized.
That's not to say Kite was a pushover. He had a more subtle approach to dealing with things. Using reason and logic to solve problems rather than brute forcing it like you. There were also times when you'd travel to shady places that he'd stick a little closer to you. (Even though he knew Ging would break someone's jaw before a finger was ever laid on you. Hell, you'd probably break someone's jaw before he got the chance to react.) He was the designated negotiator because of you and Ging’s hot-headedness. And the chance things went south, he had the best strategy for getting you all out of trouble.
Now the thing that really caught Ging's attention was realizing in all of Kite's plans, your chance of escape and zero harm was always the highest. He tried to chalk it up as him and Kite being the heavy hitters of your group. Maybe he did underestimate you for being a girl. But when he looked a little closer at the possible cause, he finally realized what was happening.
It was clear the kid had a crush on you. Kite followed you around like a lovesick puppy. If you went out for supplies, he volunteered to go with you. He also blushed like an idiot when you pulled him close to show him a bug clasped in your hands. (Kite was naturally intrigued by insects to boot) He listened intently when you complained about what was bothering you. He watched in fascination while you cussed out one of Ging's colleagues for shortchanging him. (Ging was very proud of the fact.)
Currently, the three of you were camping out near a river. You practically jumped at the idea of fishing. Previously, Ging would have thought he'd teach his son to fish, but after having you, he made it a point to teach you life skills regardless of gender. Turns out, you had a natural talent. Your timing was impeccable and your patience in observing your quarry was admirable. He'd usually lend you his fishing pole, but more often than not, you could make the catch with your hands. So while you waited for a decent sized fish to swim by, he decided he'd prod Kite about his ‘dilemma’.
“What do you think?” He asked.
Kite looked away from where you were standing. His face slightly red, which he'd blame on the heat if questioned.
“About?”
“Y/n.”
Ging almost laughed at the way Kite paled. His aura was frazzled, like he'd been caught. Which he was, but it's not like Ging would ring his neck in. Well…. Maybe. He hadn't decided yet.
“Well she's…..” Lovely. Perfect. Wonderful. Kite tried to find the right words that wouldn't expose him, but he was caught completely off guard.
“DAD!!! LOOK!” You called out. (You always asked for Ging first.) You held a bass nearly double your size over your head. There was a triumphant smile on your face. So wide you were nearly showing gums.
“Can I keep it! Please! I promise I'll take really good care of him!”
Your father's features softened, if only for a moment. He mumbled something Kite barely caught.
“She's really something.” It was said with so much pride it had Kite thinking he misheard him. Then his features hardened once more and he shouted back at you.
“NO! THAT'S DINNER!”
You pouted and splashed your feet in the water, nearly toppling towards one side.
“Meany! Bully!”
Ging thought about if he should be upset now that his suspicions were confirmed. If he should threaten Kite or shut the crush down. Buuuut- this was the first person you really let into your circle. The first one you listened to. And he was the first person who put up with you because he liked you, not out of fear or respect for your father. It wasn't exactly a guarantee Kite would man up and ask you out, or that you would say yes. Ging thought about if you were older if he'd really care about who you ended up with.
Nah.
It was your life. If you wanted to mess it up like him, he wouldn't be there to say ‘I told you so.’ But you were his baby girl. Eventually, he made a deal with himself. Your love life was none of his concern. And he wasn't necessarily against the idea of Kite taking care of you. (More like you taking care of him) But if you ever got hurt, he'd be there to make it better. By comforting you or beating the breaks off whoever your ex was. Whichever came first.
Soon you turned 13 and he figured now was the time to send you on your way. It wasn't anything personal, you were just getting older. You didn't need him around anymore. He convinced himself it was for your benefit. (And he was left as a kid and turned out perfectly fine.) Kite was just about ready to take his hunter exam, which was also the perfect opportunity for you to take yours. You weren't the biggest fan of the organization, but a license would do you good. You'd be able to get into more places and start making money. He's sure you would pass. You were a capable fighter and thought quick on your feet. It was only a matter of convincing you to go.
He figured he should just come out and say it. There was a chance you'd be upset, but he was more than used to your tantrums. Besides, you and Kite were attached by the hip. He'd be surprised if you didn't go with him. So he brought it up as casually as he could.
“You should take the hunter exam with Kite. It'd be good for you.”
You frowned at him, uncertainty radiating off you. It's not like you hadn't thought about it, or what becoming a hunter would entail. But you were practically one already. You just didn't see the reason to exert yourself over nothing.
“I don't need a license. I learned everything from you.” It was a poor attempt at appealing to his ego so he'd drop the subject.
“You know I'd have a hard time finding you after. You're always in places with bad service,” you continued.
Was that guilt he was feeling?
“That's the thing, kiddo. I was off on my own by the time I was your age. It gave me room to grow.” It felt like a bullshit excuse, but he was genuinely trying to encourage you. You needed to grow into your own person without him.
“And you're right, I did teach you everything I knew. That's why I have confidence you'll do just fine on your own.”
“You really want me to do this?” You asked, seeking your father's approval (as much as you tried to deny it). You trusted his judgment, so if he really wanted this for you, then you'd listen.
“You'll have Kite. Besides, if you become a ruins hunter, you'll be working with me anyways,” he tried to reassure, but it didn't seem to reach you.
“And if I don't?”
Ging took a minute to figure out how he wanted to phrase himself. If this meant you didn't want to be a ruins hunter or even a hunter at all. If you wanted a life completely independent of him and Kite. Did this mean you returned the boy's feelings and would trail after him regardless of what you wanted? He settled on something at last.
“Don't give up on what you want to make someone else happy. If what you want leads you down a different path, then go for it, no matter how hard it might seem.”
It might've been the only good advice he ever gave you. Of course he meant it as “Don't give up on what you want for some guy” But it ended up backfiring on him. You didn't end up taking the hunter exam, but you did wait on Kite to pass. In fact, you stuck by him long after. Yet you never once changed who you were. Of course your father was peeved at your decision not to take the exam (he didn't see you as a registered hunter and you'd never fail), but he knew it was what you wanted. Every path led back to the boy in the sewers, and he could make peace with that.
The first time Kite kissed you was when you were fifteen. Of course, the two of you had never really talked about what exactly your relationship was before that. You were undeniably close. Closer than what was considered normal for ‘friends’. The label was something neither one of you was willing to ruin, until that fateful night.
You were feeling insecure having heard about another one of your father's feats. You'd actually missed him, despite having been shooed away. You'd been right about not being able to reach him once you left, giving up on calling altogether. But it felt odd hearing about all the great things he was doing from someone else. Like he'd inadvertently cut you from his life. It had you wishing you took the exam after all, just to be able to see him. And it made sense, didn't it? A kid choosing to follow in their parents' footsteps?
You didn't know anymore. Laying flat on your back in the cheap hotel you were staying in for one of Kite's benefactors. You knew that he knew something was off, but like the good ‘friend’ he was, he didn't push you. He waited until you voiced out your frustrations.
“Do you think I'm weird?” You finally asked.
“No.” His response came immediately.
You sat up from the bed, hands fidgeting as you tried to explain yourself.
“I mean, I could have been a hunter like my dad. I could've been working with him. He's so famous now people don't even know what he looks like, but they all know his name. They don't realize he's just some guy. It makes it easier for him to get away with things. To chase what he's after. I could have been just like him. I still could, but it doesn't feel right.”
Kite sat next to you, stopping your fidgeting. You prepared for his response, having a feeling you wouldn't like it. He was honest to the point of being blunt sometimes. But that was what you respected about him.
“I don't think there's anything wrong with you wanting to be yourself. I think it's strange you stayed with me though. You could chase after anything you wanted, and you're here with me.”
You were pleasantly surprised by his words. He had no idea why you stayed this long. And while yes, a part of it was because he won you over, you stayed because there was always something new and exciting with him. So despite the insecurity radiating off him, you decided to tease. (More like push the ever dwindling boundaries to see what he'd say)
“Do you want me to leave?” You asked.
“No!” He said too quickly before composing himself.
“I mean…” His face was becoming flushed, digging himself into a deeper hole.
“You mean what?”
“I like having you around. It makes things easier.” He knows he has someone to count on. But his phrasing was skewed so the point didn't come across.
“So I'm convenient?”
“I didn't-”
“I'm just messing with you.” You decided to give him a break, right before saying something that nearly put him into cardiac arrest.
“I know, by the way.”
Kite felt his blood run cold. He quickly sensed your aura for any deceit. Anything that would clue him in on what you meant. But the softness of your expression confirmed it. Gentle, like you weren't holding his heart in your hands. He'd been too obvious and ruined things. He was sure you were about to turn him down in the nicest way you could.
“You think you're so subtle, and you are. But I don't think cuddling when it's cold is very platonic.” Your tone was light, and not at all like he was expecting. So if you knew, and you were currently teasing him, then that meant…
“It's not, is it? I guess holding hands is off the table then.” His heartbeat slowed and it felt like he could breathe again, understanding the hint you were giving him. Your grin widening only encouraged him further. He leaned slightly into your space with you following suit.
“Oh most definitely. And so’s saying you’d protect me from anything when you think I'm asleep.” Your forehead was nearly touching his.
He'd been that obvious, huh? But so had you now that he thought about it.
“How about threatening my contractors for a higher payout?”
“Shut up.”
And before you could pull away in embarrassment, he pressed his lips softly against yours. It felt like everything fell into place. Just the two of you finally letting yourselves be dumb teenagers in love.
Until you pulled away and Kite remembered who exactly he was kissing.
“Ging’s gonna kill me.” He panicked.
You slapped his arm lightly.
“Gross. Don't talk about my dad after kissing me.”
“Sorry.”
You didn't know why he was worried. It's not like Ging took an interest in your life anymore. And even if he did, he wasn't the type of Dad to spaz out over your relationship. He respected you more than that to meddle in your affairs.
“You don't have to tell him, you know? We could just be traveling together.” You suggested.
“Like he'd believe that. We're really good friends, huh?” But as the words left his lips, he drew close to you once more. Consequences be damned, he loved you.
And maybe you had a point.
“Oh yeah. Best friends.” You added before pulling him back towards you, silencing any further doubts.
It'd been a few years since you started dating, and things were going perfectly. Well as perfectly as they could with your father still stringing Kite along for his final test. As level headed as he was, the one thing he had in common with Ging was his pride. He wouldn't feel satisfied as a hunter until he found him. Which unfortunately meant you were along for the ride.
You promised yourself you'd stay out of it when he finally caught Ging. You had nothing to say to him. If he really wanted to see you, he would have called or at least messaged you. It was clear you were a chapter of his life he'd closed. And if he happened to ask about you (which you doubted he would), you made Kite promise you he wouldn't say a thing. Was it petty? Yes. But if he really cared, then he'd man up and find you himself.
That was the plan until Kite came back from the village he was exploring on Whale Island. He looked nervous, as if he was trying to figure out the right way to phrase something. When you questioned him about his odd behavior, he made you swear you wouldn't do anything rash. Because your dad, the man that he was, had a second kid on his home island. Way younger than you. Which meant, right after you left with Kite, he got busy.
“I'm gonna kill him.”
“You said you wouldn't do anything crazy,” Kite tried to soothe, but you were having none of it.
“I can't believe I have a brother and he never told me!”
“You know Ging. He probably didn't know how to bring it up.”
You sent him a glare that had him biting his tongue. You were done giving your father the benefit of the doubt. He didn't deserve your sympathy. Not after this.
“Because having a secret kid is something you should totally hide. Ugh! I hate him. Gets rid of me and then dumps off another child in the middle of nowhere.”
Safe to say you wasted no time confronting him after Kite tracked him down in a bar of all places. Not exactly helping the deadbeat stereotype. Of course you let him hand Ging his license before you ripped into him. You weren't cruel enough to rob him of this triumphant moment. And while Kite was practically beaming with pride, Ging barely even bothered to converse. Taking his license back with a “Ah, so you finally found me. You pass.” His slight disappointment at your absence went unnoticed. (He'd never admit he was looking forward to seeing how big you've grown.)
You walked up to the counter once you were sure the exchange was done and swiped the drink from his hands. Ging gave no visible reaction, although the relief of seeing you was squashed down noticing your irritable behavior. At least you'd matured out of biting people. Maybe.
“So I have a brother that you just forgot to tell me about.”
“Seems like it,” He responded before grabbing his drink back. His nonchalant attitude was gonna get him a black eye. He wasn't being cool and mysterious, he was being a socially inept jerk.
You said the first thing that came to mind to get a reaction from him. Anything that would shake his calm demeanor.
“Me and Kite are dating.”
“Nice.” He tilted his glass back.
This fucker. He wanted to brush you off? Fine. Let's see how he brushes this one off.
“I'm pregnant.”
Ging sputtered out his drink. Eyes widening in shock before he turned to you.
“You're WHAT!?!” His eyes darted towards Kite next. It was the first time you've ever felt your dad's ren. Angry and protective.
“You got my daughter pregnant!!!!!”
Kite was equally as shocked, lifting up his hands in defense.
“No! Of course not! Wait a minute.” He looked over at you from his shoulder. Despite the onslaught of nen directed towards him, he made sure to verify with you. It's not like you haven't been active. There was always a chance. But you'd just turned 19. The same age your dad was when he conceived you. It'd be painfully ironic.
“Are you?” He asked softly, not wanting to stress you out if you were.
How sweet.
You were not.
“Hell no.”
Both men relaxed instantly. Although Ging was still very much frustrated. At least now he'd talk to you.
“You can't just say that!” He scolded.
“You can't just say nothing! How do I have a brother!?! What did you do when I left? Or was that why you wanted me gone?” You accused, but he didn't back down.
“Those are two different things and you know it. Besides, it was nothing like that.”
“Then just tell me the truth! Can you give me a straight answer for once!”
You were done with his games. He hadn't seen you in six years and he acted like he couldn't give less than a fuck about it. You weren't one of his little followers that idolized him. You'd put him in his place if he wanted to act like deadbeat so badly.
“You want the truth? Can you handle it?”
“So help me, I'll tell him where you are right now-!”
“Let's not get too hasty…. Look, you know about Greed Island…and the cards,” he chose his words carefully.
“The cards? What do you mean the cards?” Then it hit you all at once. So maybe he didn't abandon you for a fling. That didn't mean you weren't any less appalled by what he did do.
“Wait. No. No no no. You're lying!”
“We needed to test them out. I had you the old fashioned way. And then your brother the fun way.”
You hid your face in your hands. That poor kid was 100% Ging.
“I can't believe I'm even related to you.”
“Well you wanted the truth. Now you hold up your end of the bargain.” He tried to shoo away, but you wouldn't let him get off that easily.
“We're not done talking! You have a mystery baby and then you never bother to tell me!?! Wait… YOU LEFT A BABY!?!”
“He's with his aunt, don't worry.”
“I HAVE AN AUNT?!?”
“Nag, nag, nag. God you really did turn into a woman.” Sensing your aura get more hostile, he quickly added, “You never asked.”
“I shouldn't need to ask if I have more family. You never took me to visit. Never talked about them once.”
“It never came up.”
There he goes again dismissing everything like it was no big deal. Like having a sibling didn't change things for you. God, he was so inconsiderate. You wondered how you tolerated him as a child.
“I could have been there for that kid if you didn't want to,” you argued.
“What's stopping you now?”
“Gee I don't know, maybe the fact it's been six years since he was born. I can't just drop something like this on him.”
It wouldn't be fair of you to take him from what he was used to. It wouldn't be fair to the woman who was raising him. Your brother had already begun his life without you, but your idiot dad didn't seem to get that.
“Sure you can. I'm surprised Kite didn't mention he was dating his sister.”
The man in question turned a bright red and scrambled for a response, thankfully getting cut off by your outburst.
“And another thing! Why didn't you react when I told you we were dating? No big freak out or anything?” Sure you didn't want him to act like a crazy overprotective dad, but maybe a little more prodding on how it happened. You’d think his only daughter having a boyfriend was something serious.
“Well, I trust Kite. He's a good match for you. I know he'll go out of his way to keep you safe. So there's really nothing for me to worry about.”
You were caught off guard by his surprisingly supportive response. You were sure Ging’s trust meant more than the test he put Kite through. His approval. If only he just started with that.
“But the off chance he doesn't…” He continued. This time a steady flow of ren was directed solely on Kite. Not as furious as before, but it carried enough of a warning to get his point across.
Kite stood steady against it, his resolve unshakeable. He knew the risks being a Hunter came with. What risks that meant for you as his partner. It was his burden to carry, and he'd make sure nothing happened to you. No matter what.
“I understand. I'll protect her with my life.”
Ging’s ren dissipated as quickly as it came.
“See? You're in good hands.”
When you and Kite returned to where you were staying, you couldn't help but notice he was quiet. He was stuck in his thoughts. It could have been him trying to figure out what to do now that his final test was completed. But you had a feeling it was something either you or Ging said.
“You okay?” You asked.
He stopped his pacing and looked at you. His expression was conflicted, if not a little hurt. Definitely something you said then. Kite never sugar coated his words, even with you. You'd think it'd lead to the both of you fighting more considering your short temper. But it was the exact opposite. If he had a problem, he'd tell you.
“I understand you were upset with Ging, but you really scared me. Pregnancy isn't something to joke about. Not in our line of work.”
He doesn't know what he would’ve done if you were. Trying to plan for the best possible solution in those ten seconds he thought it was real. Would he have given up on his dream before it even started to take care of you? You'd never let him do that. So he'd just miss his kid growing up? Risk not coming back to you? Both options sounded terrible. Which was why you shouldn't have stressed him out about it, albeit accidentally.
“I know. I just wanted more than a one worded response from him. Six years and he couldn't even say hi. I would have said anything if I thought it'd get under his skin at the moment. I never should have done it. I really didn't mean to catch you off guard like that.”
You could see him searching for a response to your explanation. You didn't need to be a mind reader to know what he'd say. He tended to defend your dad when you were upset at him. Wanting to give a fair perspective, even though Ging didn't deserve it. So before he could open his mouth, you continued on.
“I don't want excuses for his behavior. I just want my dad to be my dad. Not the hunter persona he puts on for everyone else.”
You didn't want the ruins hunter. You wanted the man who dug you out of a collapsed tomb and refused to let you out of his sight for weeks.
But Kite did what he always did best: make things better. Everytime you got in your head about your father, he was there to soothe you. (Not defend Ging like you were biased to think because you wanted a reason to be mad at him.)
“He does love you. He almost killed me for your honor.” He teased, trying to lighten your mood.
“Yeah.” You gave a small laugh before shaking your head. This wasn't about you and your dad. This was about you and Kite.
“I promise I won't say something like that again when I'm mad. Next time, it'll be real.”
Your words had him flushing all over again for a future that was hopefully not near. Next time. Reassurance that you two would stay together long enough for there to be a next time.
“And you know you'd be the first person I tell, right? Not like you wouldn't know something's up. I'm always sending you out to get my stuff when I get cramps.” You said playfully.
“You're right. Your mood swings would be worse than usual.”
“Ass.”
He looked at you then, so lovingly and soft.
“I love you.”
It temporarily disarmed you. Making your heart flutter in your chest.
“I love you too.”
More time passed since then, and your life had gone through some changes. Kite started a team of amateur hunters, equally as invested in biological conservation as him. They'd appealed to both of your humanities to purchase a mine that was home to an endangered species of swan. They stuck around ever since, which was surprising. You were never good with people, but Kite had softened you up over the years. You didn't mind the company. All the new faces who adored your partner and respected you.
Traveling, while not something new to you, was a lot more frequent now that Kite was a hunter. You helped him as best you could, but he'd always had more of a knack for nature than you. Although you were able to get him into restricted places thanks to Ging’s connections and passed down knowledge.
You were on a new biological survey currently, investigating areas around where a giant ant claw had been found. Kite was contacted because insects happened to be his specialty. He knew from the start whatever creature this was, it spelled out trouble. It was your idea to split up in order to cover more ground. And while he couldn't deny it was a good idea, he would’ve preferred having you by his side. You rarely had moments to yourselves anymore. It would have been the perfect night to…
Just his luck. Two unfamiliar auras were approaching him.
Who of all people to drop in on him but your brother. Literally. Gon was a big kid now, with a friend of his own. And while the circumstances for the reunion weren't ideal, he was happy to catch up. There was just one issue though. He didn't know how to bring you up. He tried to listen earnestly to the adventures the boys had been on, but his mind was stuck on the issue.
‘By the way, you have a sister. And I'm dating her.’
Absolutely not.
The conversation steered towards Ging and he was more than grateful. It gave him a decent opening that hopefully wouldn't come across as awkward. He never did have tact with things like this. But he owed it to the kid to tell him. He was the one who told him his father was still alive. A secret sister shouldn't be a problem compared to that.
“Ging…Isn't the best with transparency. You said he left you a voice recording?” Kite asked carefully.
“Yeah. It was mostly him saying he'd do his best to avoid me if he saw me coming,” Gon responded, blissfully unaware of the bombshell about to be dropped on him.
God bless your father because Kite was sure you were going to strangle him over this.
“He did mention my mom though, but I shut it off before he could talk about her.”
Mom? So was he lying to you or Gon? Either way, you'd kill him. Maybe he shouldn't bring it up?
“I see. There's another thing he forgot to mention to you.”
Gon perked up at that, excitement radiating off him. The same look you got when you were out on a hunt. Seems it ran in the family.
“You have an older sister.”
“What!?!” Gon’s eyes practically bulged out of his head. He looked over to his friend to verify what he'd heard. And upon seeing the other boy equally as shocked, he wasted no time asking questions.
“Where is she? Is she here? Is she a hunter? Ooh! What's she like?”
Kite couldn't help but laugh at his enthusiasm. You two were gonna get along just fine. Not that there was any doubt to begin with. He was a little surprised how fast Gon dropped the subject of Ging in favor of you. He couldn't blame him though. You'd become a new mystery for him to solve. A new goal to chase after. He was sure the kid would adore you.
“Let's see… She's currently here investigating with me. You'll probably get to see her in the morning.” If you decided to meet up with Kite instead of returning to base.
“She's not a hunter. At least, not officially. She's proficient in nen combat and extremely knowledgeable about most cultures. She's actually serving as our translator here,” he continued on, sensing the excitement from Gon’s aura increase.
“As for what she's like…” How to put this delicately without scaring him off.
“She's her father's daughter. You'll see what I mean.” You had his temper. You were both volatile. Both chasing after the thrill of a hunt.
“Wow! You guys must be really great friends if she's helping you,” Gon said.
“Yeah. Great friends.”
Technically you were his best friend before dating. It wasn't a complete lie. And he trusted you with his life.
“How much older is she?” Killua asked, finally speaking up. (He hadn't wanted to intrude on Gon and Kite catching up, but truly he was curious.)
“About fourteen years older.”
“Guess your dad wanted to try again when she didn't become a hunter,” the small assassin commented.
“Nah. It doesn't sound like something Ging would do. Right?” Gon questioned.
To be fair, it could have been a factor, yes. A kid with purely his DNA to test if he'd end up exactly like him. However, having Gon on a whim (like you) was more likely.
“Anything's possible with Ging, but just between us, don't tell your sister about that theory. You'd never be able to find your father's body.”
The boys laughed, thinking he was joking.
He was not.
Morning came soon enough and Kite introduced the boys to his team. Safe to say the duo made a huge impression on them. The son of one of the best hunters in the world and the son of an infamous assassin family. Certainly not something they encountered every day. Although both boys seemed to thrive off the attention they were getting. Especially Gon.
“So that makes you Y/n’s little brother?” Stick asked.
“Yup! I haven't met her yet, but she seems great based on what Kite's been telling us.” Gon answered, unaware of the knowing looks Kite’s team shared with each other.
“From what Kite's been telling you, huh?” Spin teased.
“Shut it.” Kite warned, adjusting his hat in embarrassment.
Gon thought the reaction was odd but brushed it off. The only thing missing was you. Kite did say he'd see you in the morning, yet you were nowhere to be found. He felt a little nervous at the thought. ‘She’s her father's daughter.’ Exactly how much were you like Ging?
The sound of an engine rumbling snapped him from his thoughts. A van pulled up next to the amateur hunters and out came a woman.
“Hey guys! Got the car ready,” You said as you shut the door behind you. The small team cheered before piling in.
You were here. No tricks. You didn't give him the slip (although realistically he knew you were nothing like his dad). He couldn't help but stare at you in awe. He wondered if you looked anything like Ging. If his father had your eyes or your hair. He was about to wave you over when to his utter shock, (and now embarrassment he didn't see it sooner) you greeted Kite with a quick peck on his lips.
Oh.
You weren't Kite's friend.
The man in question directed your attention to Gon.
“You'll never believe who I found.”
You turned around and stared at him wide eyed. The same way he was looking at you. You never thought you'd get to meet him. He's practically a baby. It doesn't sit right that he's here by himself (excluding the other little boy with him.) But to be fair, you were out on your own by 13. And despite the circumstances, you can't help but feel a little giddy. A little brother. Your baby brother.
“Is that him?” You asked.
Gon took the opportunity to approach you first, extending his hand out in a shake.
“I'm Gon, it's nice to meet you.”
He looked exactly like your father. He carried himself the same way too, like the world was just one big adventure to explore. It was hard to believe he was your flesh and blood. A little brother who was undoubtedly Ging’s, but so very different from you. It'd been years since you'd seen your father's face, and now this boy, Gon, was a painful reminder of how much you missed him.
“You look so much like him,” you mumbled before properly addressing him. “Hi there. I'm Y/n. Did Dad send you here?” You shook his hand in an act that felt a little too formal for you. (You don't know how he would've reacted to a hug.)
“Yeah! He really got me this time. I thought I figured out his puzzle, but he's always one step ahead of me.”
So Ging was still sending people on goose chases. Looks like not much changed since you last saw him. Still, he was toying with Gon as some messed up test for the chance to see him. If he was scared of getting yelled at, he shouldn't have left a clue in the first place. You couldn't tell if he was a giant pussy or bored.
“Ugh! I hate him. He's such a wuss he can't even meet his son. Figures he'd bum out on responsibility yet again.”
Gon was startled by your outburst. Seems everyone had a negative reaction when Ging was mentioned. Was his dad really that bad? The answer was apparently yes as you caught his eye.
“Gon, our dad's a dweeb.”
And somewhere, in an unknown continent, Ging got a pang akin to heartburn.
“Ow!”
Gon stuck by your side during the ride back to the hideout. He continued to ask you questions about your life and you did the same. Turns out your aunt's name was Mito, and like most people, she wasn't very fond of your father. You didn't blame her. Ging had a habit of going no contact. Maybe you'd visit her when you and Kite finished up the investigation. For now, you did your best to quell your brother's curiosity.
“What kind of hunter are you?” He asked.
“I would’ve been a ruins hunter like dad, buuuut…”
“But?”
“I didn't want to be like him. I like being my own person. I decided if there were things I wanted to chase after, I'd do it my way. I didn't want to be limited by a licence. Despite what they say, being a hunter means you belong to the organization. Anyone can look you up. Imagine what that'd mean to people who hate Dad and want to get back at him.”
He hadn't thought of it that way. All hunter information was available on the official website. Even his. Would people see his name and compare him to his father? Would they have compared him to you?
A different question crosses his mind then. You knew about him all this time, yet you never reached out.
“How come you never visited Whale Island?”
You took a second to gather your thoughts. Trying your best to give an answer to a subject you've long avoided.
“I didn't want to make things complicated. I didn't even know you existed until you were like six. I…I didn't know if it was right to approach you.”
Then you thought about if you had stayed. Help raise Gon on Whale Island and then what? You knew the answer. You would have done the same in his shoes.
“Nothing would have changed anyways. You still would have wanted to find Dad.”
As much as Gon would have liked to deny it, you were right. Just for the wrong reasons. He would have followed after Ging not because he wanted to impress him or gain his approval, but because he wanted to surpass him. He wanted to be a hunter to see what was so great about it. And now that he had, he'd be sure to accomplish everything and more than Ging ever could.
‘I don't know how I could face you.’
You really were Ging’s daughter. The only difference was, you don't run away when you're embarrassed or scared. You're not a hunter. Not selfish, like his father claimed to be. But if Ging raised you himself, then that certainly says something interesting about him.
The ant investigation continued to span on for a few days. One of which resulted in a search on the shore of York New for any possible leads. And rather than completely splitting up to cover more ground, Gon and Killua continued to follow you around.
Which inevitably led to more prodding from the boy in green.
“You and Kite are together?” He questioned, although he already knew the answer.
He was excited at the prospect of Kite becoming family. If it weren't for Kite, he never would have left Whale Island. He probably would have never met you either. Plus he looked up to him a little.
“Is it that obvious?” You said a little mortified at the thought of your brother being invested in your love life.
“I don't think friends kiss each other on the lips,” His friend commented, leading to yours and Kite's faces heating up. The latter doing his best to keep on task.
“Don't tease them,” Gon scolded before directing his attention towards the silver haired hunter.
“So would you be my brother-in-law one day?”
A very forward question Kite was not at all prepared to answer. Him? Be a part of your family? Legally be Ging’s son-in-law? The thought made him cringe.
“I don't-”
But you cut him off before he fully had the chance to shoot the idea down.
“Are you saying you don't want to marry me? Am I ugly or something?”
He knows what you're doing, and he would not give in.
“I do, but not right now.”
“Some day. Does that mean get on one knee right now? No. So yes, someday. Maybe tomorrow?” You asked hopefully.
He rolled his eyes before moving forward. Half listening while you whispered to the two boys.
“He has a ring picked out, you know~”
“And you can't see it yet.” He threw over his shoulder. He knew he wasn't exactly sneaky getting your ring size, but he'd be damned if you spoiled what it looked like.
“It's happening soon. Be on the lookout for an invitation. You're invited too, Killua. Dad though, ehhhh.”
The more you talked about it, the more excited you got. And unfortunately, the more invested Gon became. Unintentionally helping you plan for the future when there was still an issue at hand. (And Kite was becoming flustered with the topic.)
“Where would you get married?” Gon asked.
“Enough. We can talk about this after we get done with the investigation,” Kite shut down. If there really was a giant chimera ant out there, you all needed to be on guard. No time for messing around.
“I'm just saying, the sooner you ask, the sooner we can get a dog. Any breed you want. I'll even let you name it,” you tried to sway, but Kite wasn't having it.
“You're a pest.”
“And you study bugs so that just means you love me.”
He was speechless for a moment. You were a smartass like your dad too.
“Love, focus.”
There was a teasing glint in your eye that let him know you were up to no good, despite his reprimand.
“Do you want to be our practice child, Gon? Forget about Dad for a little and travel with us.”
Before the boy could answer, Kite turned around and cupped your cheeks.
“My love, I promise you we'll get married soon. But this is serious. I'm happy you're reconnecting with your brother. We can have time to relax after this is finished. The sooner we finish, the sooner we can celebrate. Okay?”
You leaned forward to kiss his nose and he knew he lost. He couldn't tell if your lax behavior was because you didn't think the chimera ant would be a threat or if you didn't think you'd find anything here. Either way, he did not appreciate you distracting the boys. They'd only end up slowing him down at this rate.
While you at last used your en to help him scout the area (which was admittedly cool to see you summon an actual pokéball and have a bird-like creature come out to survey the area), the boy in green was still trying to figure you out. He'd already decided he liked you. You seemed genuinely excited to interact with him. Imagine his surprise to learn you both enjoyed fishing. And how, like him, steam would come out of your ears when you got an information overload.
You also talked a lot like Ging. ‘I don't want to see you. If I hear you coming, I'll run the other way.’ ‘Why would you want to see him? I don't. He thinks he's so clever, but he's just a big baby.’ And judging by the way Dwun talked about him, you acted like him too.
There was a difference in the way you two addressed him he couldn't help but notice. Gon called him by his first name. Always Ging. You called him Dad, despite how much you seemed to dislike him. Not our dad, but Dad.
He just couldn't make out what your stance on Ging was. Not only that, but he couldn't read your motives. You weren't a hunter, so why go out of your way to do those jobs? It couldn't just be to stay with Kite. There had to be something else that pushed you to be this invested in official hunter business.
What was your deal?
What was your goal?
Why didn't you have the same drive as him and Ging?
Things calmed down a bit back at base once nothing was found on the shore of York New. Someone suggested looking online for any possible leads, and they were right. Recent currents narrowed down the search to the NGL region. With that decided, you split off a little ways to make a phone call. Gon and Killua hung back with the amateur hunters while Kite continued to do further research.
Killua, like Gon, was very interested in figuring you out. You were something neither of them had prepared for. They'd barely even seen you use your nen, and even then you didn't bother to explain it. There was also the question of why Ging had sent them to Kite instead of you. Was it because your father didn't trust you? Were you not as strong as Kite? Not as focused?
Your relationship also confused him. Kite seemed annoyed by you. Which couldn't have been further from the truth. But it looked like all you did was try to get under his skin.(If that talk in the forest was anything to go by.) He just didn't get why he continued dating you.
“How does he put up with her? All she does is nag,” He asked aloud.
“Trust me. Kite is exactly where he wants to be,” Spin defended.
As if on cue, you immediately started arguing over the phone.
“No! You listen to me! We're out here potentially risking our lives, the least you can do is make sure the hotel and travel arrangements are paid for! This isn't charity work. If you think you can find another beast hunter who specializes in insects, then by all means stop wasting our time! I'm sure there's plenty of other hunters who have biohazard clearance, too.”
Killua noticed Kite direct his attention towards you. He was practically watching you with little hearts in his eyes. So undeniably enamored as you continued to chew out whoever was on the other side of the phone. And when you switched languages to fully argue with the person in their native tongue, he swore he could see red on the silver haired hunter’s cheeks.
You two were weird.
You finally hung up with a triumphant look on your face, turning towards the duo and pointing.
“Pack your bags boys! We're going on an adventure!”
It earned a laugh from Gon and a real smile from Killua. So maybe you weren't so bad. It has him asking a genuine question this time.
“How long have you and Kite been dating?”
“Let's see. We got together when we were fifteen soooo… About 11 years,” you said before looking over at Gon with a small smile. “Hey, that's almost as old as you are.”
“Geez, no wonder you want him to propose. Maybe he really doesn't want to marry you,” Killua pointed out, causing Kite to look up from what he was doing with a small frown.
“Yes I do.”
God he wanted nothing more than to put a ring on your finger. To settle down and enjoy the rest of his life with you. Maybe even start a family. There was just one small issue.
“Do you know how hard it is to surprise someone like her? It's not exciting if she's expecting it.”
It left the small assassin in complete disbelief.
“You only want to propose if it's exciting?”
“Think of it as a hunt.”
“A hunt on a time limit if I have to wait another year,” You butted in.
“It'll be this year. Who knows? Maybe tomorrow. Maybe in a week.”
It was the first time the duo had seen him tease you back. Seen him be equally as relaxed as you.
“I might just get down on one knee and beat you to it,” you threatened, but Kite wasn't fazed by it.
“Your pride won't let you.”
“Ew. They really do love each other,” Killua whispered to the boy in green.
“Be nice.”
Gon finally got the chance to talk to you in private on the airship the next day. It's not like he disliked having the others around, but he wanted a one-on-one conversation with you. To talk without worrying about what the others would think. Besides, this was probably a question only you could answer.
“What was growing up with Ging like? I figure if anyone can really tell me what he's like, it's you.”
Your eyes widened at the question. You should have guessed he'd eventually ask about your father. You were the kid he stayed for after all. You didn't know if Gon held any bitterness towards you for that. If he wanted an insight into what his childhood could have been. What he missed out on from Ging being absent. At the same time, he had a parental figure who stayed. A mom who didn't shoo him out the second she felt he was old enough.
“It wasn't easy growing up with him,” you started. “Not for the reasons you’d think. He wasn't the best dad. He practically shooed me off when I was 13. He forgot my birthday multiple times because he was busy. I was put in danger more times than I could count.”
And just when Gon thought you'd say he was the worst like everyone else seemed to do, your expression softened.
“But he showed up when he knew I needed it. I remember there was this tomb he excavated. Really famous because of the history it uncovered. They found scrolls, pottery, even trinkets made from gold. It belonged to a King, so naturally the way his body was preserved allowed Dad and his team to fully study it. They uncovered so much, but you know what they were never able to find?”
He shook his head 'no'.
“They never found his crown. They theorized what it looked like and suspected it was stolen by a grave robber. But you know something really interesting…When I was a kid, Dad brought me into a place he was working in a few days after my birthday. He told me to pick out anything I wanted. Anything at all. So I picked out this beautiful gold crown with intricate carvings. He never said anything, never grimaced or told me to get anything else. He let me walk out with it on my head and told me ‘Happy late Birthday.’”
Gon understood what you were implying. It both sounded and didn't sound like something Ging would do. The great ruins hunter with fantastical feats and the aloof man who struggled with his personal relationships.
“I still have it, back at mine and Kite's apartment. It reminds me that Dad had his own way to show he cares. Especially during times when he's being difficult and I wanna ring his neck.”
You looked down at your brother, and he understood what Kite saw in you. What Ging saw that made him stay.
“Everyone has stories about Dad, and not all of them are pleasant. But he tries. Gon, if Dad truly really didn't love you, then why did he leave you that box? Why would he have gone out of his way to tell his friends you were coming? I mean, he gave you his fishing pole. You know that was the only thing he had of our grandfather? The only real thing he ever had from home. I don't know how you feel about all this. About him. But I won't make excuses for his actions. He shouldn't have walked away. He shouldn't have kept us a secret from each other.”
Gon took a second to process your words, an assured look in his eye when he came to a conclusion.
“I think I'm sure about it now,” he said. You waited patiently for him to continue.
“I have to catch him. If I can catch the greatest of the great, then that makes me pretty great too, huh?”
You let out a laugh and mussed up his hair. Which he was quick to sway away playfully.
“Besides, if he's anything like you, I'm sure I'll find a way to look past what he did.” Because you were your father's daughter.
“I guess I am pretty cool.”
Before the conversation could continue further, Kite called you away to talk. Gon knows he shouldn't do it. It's wrong. But he listens anyway.
“Are you ready?” Kite asked you.
“I don't have a good feeling about this,” You admitted. (The first time Gon’s heard you waver.)
“Me neither. But we'll be okay. If anything goes wrong, you run.”
“And leave you behind? Not a chance,” you argued, but Kite wouldn't back down. Neither of you would.
“I'm being serious.”
“So am I. Would you leave me if I was in danger?”
Kite didn't miss a beat.
“You wouldn't be in danger if you'd run.”
Gon could see you both progressively get frustrated with each other.
“I'm not leaving you behind. Either we both get out… or we don't.”
“You're being selfish. What about Gon? What if he needs you?”
“Then I'll save the kid and help you after.”
You moved towards Kite, staring him down with a glare before speaking one more.
“If you wanna die so badly, do it when you're single.”
“Pest,” he said as he returned your glare.
“Ass.”
And like before, the argument took a completely different direction than expected. Kite reached up to cup your cheek and the fire was gone from both of you. You leaned into his space, kissing him before parting with a soft look.
Gon wonders why the silver haired hunter didn't say anything about your relationship sooner. It's not like he would have been against it. He barely knew you. You had a whole life before he was even born. If anything, he was grateful someone like Kite was by your side. He was with you longer than Ging. He knew you best out of everyone. It was obvious he loved you.
So why…
He's not sure he likes the way you two are so close. The way the silver haired hunter presses his head to yours. The way you look at each other with such fondness despite the disagreement you just had.
He would have wanted to be a part of the life you built together. Now he has to watch you be happy, be complete without him. He wonders if Ging would have just told you about him. If Kite would've told him about you all those years ago, how different things would be. Would he be traveling with you? Would you have visited him and Mito? Stayed with him and watched him grow up?
Or would you have still chosen Kite over him?
“Gon?” You called out, Kite having just left.
“Things are gonna get real dangerous here. I need to know if you'll be strong enough to handle it.”
He was about to respond, but you cut him off.
“Not because you have something to prove, but because you want to do this. I’m not Dad. I don't want you to see things you don't have to.”
He appreciated the sentiment, but he'd come too far to back out now. He couldn't help but be a little defensive. He'd just beat one of Ging's long time friends in a dodgeball match. He'd just defeated a nen user who was terrorizing people for years. He'd just beaten Ging's game. He wasn't an amateur.
“Don't underestimate me. I know I'm still young, but I'm not weak. I'm Ging's kid, right? Same as you.” He defended.
He practically jumped when you grabbed his cheeks and pulled.
“I didn't say you were weak, you goof. Keep talking like him and I'll treat you like him. Got it?”
He nodded. You released him, making sure to pinch his cheeks hard before backing off completely.
“If things get bad, leave. Don't look back. No matter what. Me and Kite are professionals. We won't die. And so help me, if I have to drag you by your toenails to get you out of there, I'll do it.”
“Gross!”
Despite your crude words, he was smiling. Things had turned out this way for a reason. No point in dwelling on the what ifs. You were every bit as lovely as he was hoping. A big sister made from his father's strength and his own definition of love.
He listened intently as you tried to teach him some phrases from the region you were entering. He could wait on his search for Ging. He had you for right now. And that was proving to be more than enough.

AN: Chimera and arc didn't happen. Kite didn't die with the ring in his pocket. Y/n didn't find out she was pregnant and go to Ging for comfort. He didn't try to reassure her by saying Kite would be back. What???? Y'all are crazy. Obviously nothing bad happened after and they got married because the giant ant was a hoax. Gon was the best man and Whale Island wedding 😞🥀 (I might write the continuation. Perchance.)

Bonus- Ging and Y/n being Vegeta and Bra core from Dragon Ball GT.
Y/n, looking horrified at the stubble across Ging's face.
“That beard has got to go. It makes you look like a total geek.”
Ging getting red faced and mumbling about how he's a man, so it makes him look cool. It's completely shaved the next day.
-------------------------------
Y/n crying hysterically at the flavor of ice cream she got while Ging is actively fighting off a monster from trying to eat her.
feitan being interested in a competent nen user (or more likely: another criminal) leads to less internal conflict and vitriol on his end, but you also have to deal with a lot of edgy peacocking behavior. it ends up coming off as him trying to one-up you rather than impress you.
