your baby lan zhan aund wei ying just made me all warm like hot chocolate, thank you
hello darling, youre so sweet for this message. they make me all kinds of warm too. i love the idea of them climbing over each other to get into bed. wwx half asleep and clumsy but even then takes care not to elbow lan zhan in the face. also because wwx always falls asleep first, lan zhan studies wwx for a long time, perplexed by the stillness!
I am pro life because I believe a baby is a human life. By having an abortion, it is the murder of a life. A woman can do whatever she wants with HER body (whether it's tattoos, piercings, etc) but an abortion isn't about her body, it's about another life.
Headcannon: more than one ftm wizard at Hogwarts has had to get his friends to retrieve his stuff because while Hufflepuff enchanted the stairs not to out anyone, as soon as they come out all bets are off and boys aren't allowed in the girls' dorms.
Darling I am so happy you shared this with me. It’s a beautiful headcanon. I love the idea that they are treated as they are ready to present themselves. I adore the idea that when Helga said she accepted everyone she meant everyone.
I know it’s hard for a lot of people right now to know how to feel about HP because of JKR coming out so clearly as a TERF. And I don’t think we can pretend she didn’t write the books; for one thing there are other problems with the books too. But I don’t believe we have to give up the world. She may have started it, but it’s not hers anymore. We can fix the holes she’s created and ease the pain that she has caused. We can have trans Hufflepuffs and rainbow flags hanging from tower windows. Harry can be Indian, Hermione can be black. And we can keep telling our stories and finding ourselves in the magic.
I love imaging the look on this boy’s face the first time he absently heads for the girls’ dorm and finds that he’s blocked. And I hope he smiles and runs for the stairs of the boys’ down because even the castle know that’s where he belongs.
So Lost it you were to take the characters and plot of Jane Eyre and dropped it into the universe of L.M. Montgomery's Prince Edward Island/Avonlea what would that look like?
This is such a delightful question that I’ve let myself think about it for days before answering. Sorry it took so long.
INterestingly, Jane Eyre is actually mentioned a couple of times in the Emily of New Moon series. One can actually argue that in the same way Jane Eyre was an AU fanfic of Jane Austen’s Emma, the Emily Trilogy is an AU of Jane Eyre. There’s even a night spent in a haunted ‘pink room’ that’s a pretty strong allusion to the red room. There’s an essay I read that brings up the idea that Mrs. Kent, Teddy’s mother, is Emily’s Bertha Mason.
However let’s look at a more literal translation of Jane Eyre on PE Island. I think one major change, other than the fact that we jump ahead 50 something years in history and the social morays that affects, is the idea of community. A big part of Jane Eyre is a repeated theme of isolation. She’s isolated with the Reed family. and other than a doctor we know little about the area around the Reed household. She’s isolated at school, the only location other than the school being a very cold church. With Thornfield we know the house itself is a distance from anything else, though we have a better idea of what surrounds it. A town with a pub is visited. The Ingrams are less than a day’s ride away. We have a trip to London. The town where the Rivers family live is the only loction really that seems tied to a community.
This is something that I think would be a big change if you plopped Jane Eyre down in PEI. To start I think we make Jane a little older when her parents die. Maybe 5 or 6, in some foreign place with her parents. A hint of a warm relationship with them before a long cold journey. When she arrives in the town where her mother grew up people whisper about her mother running away to marry a poor minister. Jane tries to make herself as small as she can as she waits at the boat dock. It’s her uncle who comes and gets her, and his hug reminds her of mama. For a moment she has hope, but the home he takes her to is cold and full of yelling. It’s only a few months before her uncle dies and she learns just how unwelcome she is. It’s 4 years before she’s sent away to school, probably in Nova Scotia or something. Her Lowood experience isn’t very different, but probably not mentioned as much in the story.
Mrs. Fairfax is a character that’s affected by the change. She’s heavily tied to the community, with friendships with people in town. We see her at a sewing circle, talking about how she can’t understand all that foreign talk now that the little girl is with them. Talking about the governess she hired (some Rachel Lind type character ‘humphs’ about how their school is good enough for the island children and should be good enough for some foreign girl. They talk at some point about Blanche Ingram (Miss Airs and graces, our Rachel Lynd character shakes her head. She stole candy from the general store when she was a girl just like anyone else.). Mrs. Fairfax will not let anyone say anything bad about Master Rochester. There are, of course, rumors all the time about why he’s gone all the time. There’s conversation in the general store about it being for the best when the old Mr. Rochester died. Rochester the younger might never be around, but the farms do better when the taxes aren’t so high.
Jane, when she arrives, has no idea how to interact with normal town people who ask her questions and want to know where she’s from and how the girl is doing. Mrs. Fairfax has to rescue her more than once from a conversation making her uncomfortable. She does have a tentative friendship eventually with the town’s schoolteacher. She never talks about Mr. Rochester to her friend, though. She attends church, and the curate is a friendly old man who takes an interest in her. He tries to visit Thornfield once, but Rochester doesn’t take kindly to ministers in his house and questions him ruthlessly about contradictions in the Bible. In the happy period we get a lovely scene of Adele playing with other children in town for the first time when Jane takes her to church.
Rochester has little interest in the town. When he was a child his father drilled it into his head that he was too good for the villagers. He wasn’t allowed to play with the children. There are a few that remember his as a child, however, and pitied him. He was a lonely boy, and unlike his brother and father not a bully or full of himself. He was sent away to boarding school in England when he was ten. He sees jane in town once, when his guests are staying over, and they end up wandering the village. It totally sets off the rumor mills. it turns out there are a few places he remembers that hold good memories, times he ran away from nannies and tutors and got to spend a brief time being free. We see just a hint of him possibly being part of the community.
Blanche of course has nothing but scorn for the little village. She’s hoping that she can talk Rochester into moving someplace like Montreal. She wants off the island.
When Jane runs away to the other side of the island she’s both more reluctant to interact with the people in town and craves it more. She’s begun to know what it’s like to find not just a home and people she loved, but a community where she belonged. It’s a small island and she still hears things occasionally. The school placed first in the spelling bee. Mr. Caron won a prize for the biggest pumpkin. I think it’s the rumor mill that spreads the word about the fire.
At the end of the story we have Jane and Rochester showing up to church, her leading him on her arm, Adele following behind. People whisper, but after a look from the curate they stop. After the service they are greeted warmly and we get the feeling that they have both found a home.
Do you have any headcanons about Lenny and Abe's relationship? I think they'd get along like a house on fire when it comes to debating free speech and that kind of stuff:)
Okay, so picture this. Zelda’s in the kitchen getting dinner ready. Rose is setting the table. Midge is attempting to talk to mama. In the study Abe is at his desk and Lenny is draped over a chair in that way he has of looking like he’s totally relaxed then he’s not. And he’s feeding lines to Abe about whatever it is they’re in the mood debate this time. And sometimes he’s saying what the cops said, and sometimes he’s repeating lines from his act. Sometimes he takes the same side as Abe and sometime the opposite. Lenny’s voice doesn’t get loud, but it gets faster. And Abe just keeps getting louder until he slams both palm on the desk and stands up and starts quoting the Bill of rights and Lenin and John Locke and Socrates.
Lenny has these moments where he’s trying not to smile.
But then Midge comes in and says dinner is ready if they haven’t ruined the structural integrity of the apartment building with their noise and banging. And suddenly Lenny sits up and Abe sits down. They nod and say they’ll be right there. Abe offers Lenny a drink and the two chat amiably as they walk into dinner together.
...
Lenny and Abe go to plays together. Rose’s interest in plays is very specific, as is Midge’s (in a different way.) Abe loves these avant-guard things and these dramas that Midge and Rose both find too depressing and heavy. So once when he has too tickets he asks Lenny and now it’s a thing, every couple of months.
>>>
Once when the school can’t get ahold of Joel they call Midge. She doesn’t answer but Lenny picks up her phone, and says Midge isn’t around. They call Abe, next on the list. Ethan is in trouble for fighting and needs to go home. Lenny ends up showing up because who knows when Midge will return, and Abe shows up because someone in this family needs to be reliable. And so it ends up the two of them being lectured by the principal. It ends up that Ethan hit a kid who used a slur, and Lenny says ‘way to go’ and Abe would never but secretly he’s proud. They end up taking him out for ice cream.
An AU wherein you mention that Gold and Emma are together when they meet Neal in Manhattan.
I need you.
Emma’s the first to say it. It’s heat and lust and clothes being pulled away, and Emma’s glad she’s on birth control because they didn’t even think about condoms. Gold’s fingers are as talented as she expected, but she didn’t expect the moments of tenderness or the way he holds her afterward. She really didn’t expect breakfast the next morning before sneaking back home and lying about where she’d been.
I need you.
She calls the paramedics first, but when she hangs up it’s Gold she calls second. Somehow he’s there before the ambulance and holds her while they load Henry onto a stretcher. She’s pretty sure he’s the only reason she’s still standing. Mary Margaret stares when she arrives at the hospital and they’re holding hands, Gold alternately whispering reassurances to Emma and yelling at Whale for not doing enough. He doesn’t leave until he’s assured that mary Margaret will stay. He has something to do. Emma makes him swear it’s to help Henry, not harm Regina. There will be time for that later but for now they need to find some way to wake the boy up. He’ll find something, he swears. It’s Emma that breaks the curse in her desperation. He knew she would do it.
I need you.
He’s found Bae. It’s taken him time to track him and figure out how to leave town, but now it’s time. He asks Emma for her help, and worries that Hook and Cora are a threat to her son. They both have children they need safe, and he won’t risk hers to find his. They take Henry with them when they go to New York. Emma drives and he spends a lot to time staring out of the window, as if he can see what’s ahead. His powers of foresight have never been that clear and don’t work at all now, but Emma reaches out and takes his hand and Henry is excited. ‘If you two marry then I’ll have a brother’ Henry realizes at some point.
It’s the first time anyone has said marriage and it’s a shock. Emma’s eyes grow big and she takes a deep breath. ‘No hurries,’ she says. But a little while later she looks over at him. ‘It’s not that I’m against the idea, but things are pretty crazy right now. Plus I’d probably be crap at being a wife.’ ‘I know I’d be crap at being a husband’ he says, because he knows. But it’s not a ‘never’ and only a ‘not right now’ and he can’t help thinking about the future. After they find Bae. After things settle at home. Will they still be in Storybrooke or will they end up back in their world? He doesn’t know. He knows he wants Emma and Henry in his life as much as he needs his boy.
I need you.
He can’t run, not with his leg. He needs Emma to convince his boy to see him. She trusts him enough to watch her boy, and it’s a very long half hour before she calls him on his cell. If they go up to the apartment she’ll try to bring him up with her. It’s another half hour before she returns alone. She’s nervous, pacing the room like a caged thing. She won’t look at him.
“Emma?”
“My parent’s are the same age as I am. That is weird. My parents and almost everyone I know is a fairy tale character. But I’m dealing. I was born in a different world and my parents love me and the man in my bed is a couple of centuries old and also goes by Rumpelstiltskin and I think I’ve taken it all pretty well.” He catches her as she walks past him, tugging her closer.
“It’s not your fault if he wouldn’t come, it’s mine. You kept your promise.” He cups his hand to her cheek. “I’m the one he didn’t want to see.”
“That’s not the problem. Baelfire...”
“What the hell?” The door to the apartment opens and he’s there. Baelfire. He can see his boy in the man he’s become. The angry and shocked man. “I thought he might threaten you. I thought he would be a threat, but you...”
“He doesn’t know.” Emma pulled away from him, crossing her arms to wrap them around herself. Invisible armor.
“What don’t I know?” And then it hit him, the way they were looking at each other. They hadn’t met an hour ago. “You two know each other.”
“Apparently I’m not the only one that knows her. My father, Emma?”
“How the hell was I supposed to know? You don’t get to look at me like that, Neal. It’s been almost twelve years and you’re the one that ran and left me alone. You’re the one that let me go to jail.”
Jail. Gold stared at her, stared at his son, and turned to look over his shoulder at the bedroom where Henry was waiting. His son was the reason Emma had gone to jail. Emma, who had given birth to a son in jail. Emma, betrayed by Henry’s father.
The woman he was in love with for the first time in decades and the second time in centuries, was his son’s ex. His girlfriend’s son was his grandson.
