To answer your question in the simplest way possible, he is, and he isn’t.

You’re correct in saying that ShapeShifters are a completely different species entirely. Tolkien didn’t give muchinformation about them, but we do know that they shift between two forms:animal and Man. I took it upon myself, therefore, to include his Man side (ifthat makes any sense?). (I also wanted to include the Nazgûl but didn’t get thespace to, ‘cos they were once Men as well, before, y’know, everything else.Basically what I did was something like: if they were a Man at some point, they count; ‘cos the Race of Men is a whole culture, not only a species.)
