Hellooo If you’re living in the UK, now is more important than ever to support local businesses as you’re subjected to 20% VAT + duty + clearance fee for all goods from the EU and export-import is in hell. Here are some tips:
- Know a business that’s closed during lock down? find them on google - usually they have contact number/online site and would be more than happy to ship to you, including bakeries - (i.e This in Manchester)
- Join local groups, a lot of small family businesses are doing home deliveries through local adverts on social media - From Sewing circles, Pasta, Donuts to Vegetables & handy man services. Lots of folks don’t have a website but will deliver.
- Need groceries? Time to explore some alternatives markets. I.E: Most Asian stores in the UK does shipping and have some really fun foods! This is my favourite
- Milk, butter, bread? A lot of areas are covered by milk rounds from local farms and it’s not even that expensive, you get milk, butter and even eggs delivered! This one in my area even has artisanal butter & delivers ice cream.
- Check where you’re buying from - a lot of big online retailers with website .co.uk actually still base their warehouses in the EU, meaning orders shipped will have import taxes. Check before buying!
