Living had been far from a pleasant experience these weeks. Saihara struggled to remember what day it was, disoriented by his distorted memories. Even during the dreadful game had he always doubted to trust, doubted to proceed, doubted to point out the atrocious truth. Yet against his expectations, he was now questioning his entire existence and everything surrounding it more than ever before. The path they had uncovered that lead to outside world was paved with grey lies. Despite having solved countless mysteries, the more he thought, the more they threatened to topple him over. One of such mysteries tore him out of his thoughts as he entered the room.
Ouma Kokichi. The mastermind of the killing game that had cost so many their lives — supposedly. All of it was a lie. Saihara had been deceived by him, strung along by his games and had lost himself in his own foolish emotions as he tried to decipher the cryptic words coming from that liar’s tongue. In the end, all that remained was crushing guilt. Remorse so strong, it made his heart ache. And yet, it also kindled a hopeful flame inside of him. The other had awoken maybe two weeks ago and was supposed to be bedridden.
“ Ouma-kun...? ”, he finally raised his voice once he had approached him. It was hoarse from the lump that had formed in his throat. He tried to swallow it down and failed in the process. Still, he pushed on.
“ You’re supposed to be in bed, aren’t you...? Will you be alright? Since the doctors said you should rest some more, before you... ”, he trailed off and grasped for fitting words, before he lightly shook his head. “ A-anyway. I’ll leave if you want me to, but do you mind if I sit down for a while...? ”
He spotted the tea Ouma was drinking as he rested in the arm chair of the common room’s seating area. It’s fragrance momentarily calmed his nerves and he breathed in deeply as he waited for an answer.
