"I'll let Aogami explain... It's a silly observation, but he wants to try something out." Chihiro presses on one of the earpieces of his suit, and Aogami begins speaking. That familiar deep voice echoed from the earpieces as he spoke with.... genuine curiosity.

"I am curious to see if certain foods have an effect on me. Such as that vampire friend of Chihiro's... He was rather defiant in refusing the King of Chaos' order to eat a piece of garlic." Many demons had their elemental and phsyical weaknesses when they fought--- but the whole food weakness was so new to the protofiend. "Also, the young man said I should try garlic bread-- Since it's rather mild on the 'tastebuds'. Than eating raw garlic."

"That's because raw garlic on it's own is too spicy!! The only way I'll eat that is if super sick and congested! Besides, garlic bread is tasty... With extra cheese!"

"Whatever you want, young man, I just want to test out a theory."

"Oh, okay!" As Chihiro does that, Kaede starts mincing the garlic after preheating the oven. As she listens, she nods along. "I see...! Ah-! A-Ahaha.... I-I...see.... so that's what inspired you to give it a try, huh...." ("Poor Shuichi...")

She really needs to tell Naoki to stop tormenting that poor vampire, sometimes... "Well, um, I think I can probably say for a fact that garlic probably wouldn't burn your throat like it does his, Aogami!! I hope if anything, even if it does have any effect on you, nothing that's bad, anyway. It'd be a shame if you couldn't enjoy garlic bread!"

Now mixing the minced garlic in with the softened butter, olive oil, and parsley, she laughs at that and nods her head in agreement. "Chi-kun's not wrong! I don't wanna eat raw garlic, either, even when I'm sick! Yeah, too spicy!! Heh heh, imma make this garlic bread eeeextra cheesy, don't you worry~! But okay! Let's all help test your theory out together, Aogami!"

After she finishes creating the garlic butter mix, she cuts the bread in half lengthwise and spreads both halves with the garlic butter. Then, she sprinkles a good amount of cheese on the halves, too. "Okie dokie~! Now time for this to go in the oven!"

She chimes as she now places the bread on the baking sheet. "Don't worry, it won't take long at all! About a goood 10 or so minutes, I'd say." She informs them with a smile before placing the bread in the oven.

HAND CRANKED AND TWISTED

"It's summer..." You know what that means? Spending the entire day under a body of water!!! He's running straight into the beach!!! Wait-- Was he wearing his swim trunks under his uniform the whole time!?

"It sure is~! I'm so excited for the nice weather to really come back!" And being able to have a fun time on the beach with her friends again! She remembers how fun it was last year; ...and also how, last year, her and Mukuro tried to find this one all day and the failed attempt to drag him out of the water... She still doesn't get how he was able to even do that for hours without looking like a giant wrinkly grape!

She can't even say she was surprised he was already wearing swim trucks under his clothes... was she going to have to worry about him staying underwater for hours...again! "Ohh geez, you're that excited to get in the water already, huh... Are you going to stay under there for hours again? And you probably weren't gonna tell me if I didn't follow you, would you.... Then you wonder why I worry about you so much!"

"...Ahh, am I in paradise? The most beautiful savior guardian angel I've ever seen has come to save me..."

-Not even half a second after spotting Kaede and he's instantly singing her praises. Regardless, he's instantly accepting the drink and her refreshments (even if his gaze is focused mostly on her).

"A-Ahh, geez~! What are you saying so suddenly! Don't be silly..."

She giggles bashfully with a light blush on her cheeks. Whenever he says things like that, she never knows how to handle it! Still, she returns his gaze with a bright smile when he accepts the drink.

"But yeah, of course! I'd hate for you to feel dehydrated or burn up! Whenever you need something to eat or drink in a flash, you better come to me, okay!"

"...Anyone got any ice cream? Cold water? Anything?" He's feeling a little like a shriveled up desert bush today.

"Noo, don't melt, Hibiki-kuuun! I got you!!"

Thank goodness she thought to pack some cold drinks! She takes out a bottle of an iced lemonade refresher and holds it out to him. "Here, drink this!!"

Presses a kiss to her forehead in place of a greeting. (Maki just wanted to be soft)

"!" Just as Kaede was about to happily greet her girlfriend, she gasps when instead, the other leans up to press a kiss to her forehead!

"Aww, Maki-chan~!" A light blush appears up on Kaede's face, followed by the smile on her face brightening more than ever!

"You're so cute... Nice to see you!!!" She wraps her arms around Maki in a big hug, kissing the top of her head. "You knooow, if you 'greet' me like that lots of times, I happily won't mind, juuust saying!"

She winks, giggling. She'd be delighted to see Maki no matter what, but she definitely wouldn't turn down more kisses!

"Aogami wants to eat some of your food, Kaede!! He said he think garlic bread seems interesting." How was Aogami going to eat it? Well, being a robot with a demon soul inside fo them-- he can't exactly eat in his usual form... So Chihiro tkaes the suggestion of being in their Nahobino form so 'they' could eat it! @doomedprotags

"Oh?" A curious smile immediately lights up on Kaede's face as she turns to face him. "Garlic bread, huh? Hehe, well then it's only best I feed that curiosity, huh?" She giggles. Asking the chef to make something already makes her giddy, but for her practical dad-in-law, Aogami? Even moreso! After all, she's sure it must suck not being able to eat regular foods in his normal form, but through Chihiro in his Nahobino form, he'd be able to! With a pump of her fists, she tells him: "Alrighty! Aogami, I'll make you some extra tasty garlic bread!"

Did she already have all the needed ingredients on hand? Of course she does! "Let's see, let's seee..." Opening her drawer, Kaede takes out some of her recipe notes and begins shifting through them. "I believe I should have my recipe for garlic bread in here somewhereee... Ah! Here we go!" Beaming, she takes out the recipe card for garlic bread.

As she starts getting out a loaf of French bread, garlic, olive oil, butter, fresh parsley and grated cheese, she asks: "Curious~! What made him curious about garlic bread specifically?"

Kaede was easy to convince, that was good. Junko felt some form of relief- not because Kaede agreed, but that she wouldn't have to force it. It was more work than it was worth, and usually resulted in people just saying what they thought she wanted to hear.

Usually their guess at what she'd want would be wrong, because genuine criticism is more valuable than praise. Junko knows it's good, whatever she might be making, but that's not always what she needs.

"Well, duh, of course I'm like, fine with you," crass as always, but there's something in there... Could even be some minuscule respect, something Junko doesn't give out freely. "You know your shit about food. So, like, obviously you'd tell me if it sucks."

She almost laughs at Kaede's asking if she came up with it herself. Of course she did, would she get where she was if she just reused dusty recipes from some old man or something?

"I fucked around with my cake recipe to like, see if I could make it a little more..." She gestures with her hands, trying and failing to find the right word. "Whatever. A little more. Like, make it stand out. The other shit's a total placeholder, it's like whatever."

The moment they're in Kaede's lab she's set the cake down, and is looking over her own work with a furrowed brow. Judging it herself before even bothering to try it. Junko wonders, for only a second, if Kaede ever gets bored of her own delicious cooking. Sometimes Junko has to eat a shitty candy bar just to enjoy her own work.

"I see..." A smile lights up on Kaede's face. For even Junko to think Kaede knows her stuff... it was kind of flattering! Maybe the confectioner wasn't as mean as she thought? Though no way Kaede was going to say that out loud. She's not that bold around Junko, yet! "Alright, Enoshima-senpai: I promise to give nothing but an honest review."

Something she always does, anyway, but she just wanted to reassure that she wasn't going to just give her an answer she thinks she wants to hear. Of course, she doesn't expect the cake to be nasty, but sometimes even something that is bound to be delicious may still need some things that can be done differently or better, right?

As Junko explains, Kaede nods as she listens in curiosity. "I see... yeah I get what you mean! Baking a nice looking cake is one thing, but I bet part of the fun comes with how you can put your creative twists on it, yeah?" After all, she thinks: creativity is also a big part of cooking and baking! She liked to do the same thing whenever she could....like if she could create 'art' out of special kinds of sushi rolls from the family restaurant.

Not wanting to just tear into it, Kaede brings over a couple of mini plates, a knife, and two forks. "Alrighty! Let's try it, shall we? Can I go ahead?" Once Junko gives her the okay, Kaede looks for a spot on the cake to try first...a slice that gives her a little bit of everything. "I think I'll start here..."

Kaede starts at the top, cutting a tiny slice and putting it on her plate. She grabs a forkful of the cake piece and the candied fruit. She takes a bite and closes her eyes. "Hmm... mmm! Tasty!" And sweet! Very sweet..... She takes a moment to savor the flavor, tasting the chocolate ganache inside....then she takes another bite. "As I expected, it tastes good! You really can taste the chocolate in each bite. And when you try it together with the candied fruit, it gives it that extra sweet kick! The only concern, however...is maybe if that would make each bite too sweet? When you eat everything together in one bite.... I understand that's to be expected with the entire cake layered with candied fruits, but yeah..."

To her, this cake would probably be a hit with real sweet tooth heads, but the overpowering flavors might be a bit much for people who don't like all that sweetness... "I still think it's good, don't get me wrong! The candied fruits are still a cute and creative addition to it! Maybe if they were moreso... Evenly spaced out around the cake? That could work, too? Then you can still get a good look of how the cake looks that's not covered by them... If that makes sense." She hopes she's conveying her thoughts correctly. Kaede was a good baker, but Junko was of course, far more experienced at her. So she hopes her constructive criticism was actually helpful to her...

-She tries, she says? He could really tell.

-The way she started going on and on at the slightest prompting, speaking endlessly about her passion, her cultivated talents... perhaps there were some out there who would find it odd, Hibiki was not one of those people. He listened intently, as he always did with anyone, but there was an unusual pull this time around as well in the way he leaned in, relaxing his head on his palm, resting his elbow on the table.

"...Wow... You look really excited just talking about it, huh...?"

-Entrancing, that was the word for it, somehow. Her soft laugh put him oddly at ease. And he couldn't really help the way he smiled at her in return, nor the earnest way in which he spoke his next words.

"...You're amazing." Words declared, not suggested, as if he'd made up his mind about it just from hearing her speak. "And I hope lots of people tell you that."

"Ah...! E-Eheheh! Yeah, I guess!!" She rubs the back of her head, smile turning slightly bashful. Oh god, she thinks to herself: he must think I talk so much...! Kaede knows how she can get when food is the subject. She goes on way longer than she means to! Though... Instead of the usual panic of possibly annoying him... Hibiki looked...happy listening to her. His question wasn't asked out of annoyance or snark, but rather.. fondness... Even calling her amazing, too!

"Ahh..." No matter how much praise she does get....such sincere ones like this always manage to make her a little flustered. "Th-Thank you, Hibiki-kun. That's very sweet of you to say..... I'm so happy you're enjoying it that much! And don't mind me talking your ear off, e-eheheh..."

She giggles while rubbing the back of her head with a light blush on her cheeks. "Y-Yes! When I know I succeeded in making someone happy because they loved what I made for them... it's the best feeling in the world!"

What's that... lovely smell? Clearly some sort of cake, still fresh enough to catch notes of chocolate, something sweet and fruity, too... The aroma is followed by the rhythmic 'clack' of heel on tile, someone approaching...

Who else but Junko? No one could be strutting in with something outlandish-looking, a small three-tier cake coated in candied fruits, a fair amount of chocolate ganache...

Junko herself is carrying the cake by the bottom, plate resting on one palm as she approaches. Something is in her eye... Mischief? Excitement? With Junko, the two were hard to tell apart. Could be a prank, but would she really risk Kaede's palate with that?

"You." Her pace is increasing. There's no running from Junko now. "I need a guinea pig that's not, like, a total fucking pleb who can actually like, judge something." There's no request, no question. She's demanding this.

Just as Kaede was about to open the doors to her kitchen lab, she stops when hearing the quickly increasing pace of heels approaching her. Turning around, she blinks in surprise to see that it's Junko! "! Enoshima-senpai!" Yep, she was definitely coming towards her with that cake! That look in her eyes... even she couldn't tell if that was excitement or mischief. She can only hope it's all in innocent nature, either way...!

"M-Me?" She points to herself with a tilt of her head. "Oh...!" So she wanted Kaede to taste the cake for her! Or at least, demands that she does. Thankfully Kaede wasn't going to refuse, anyway: if anything, she's a bit surprised Junko is coming to her specifically for this, but she's actually kind of... honored!

So with a nod of her head, she tells her: "O-Okay!! If you're fine with me, I don't mind doing that...! Um, come in...!"

If she's willing to trust what Kaede will say, then she can't disappoint!! Holding the door open for Junko to enter, she finally can take a moment to take in the sweet aroma of it and the appearance of the cake... "What a cute looking cake! I see... candied fruits and chocolate? Did you come up with it, yourself?"

45. "Wake up!"

"Axel, my friend! Wake up....!" Whispers the fire dragon as she leans in. Today was the day Kaede as going to show Axel around the forest where her temple resides. With the bountiful fruits, plants, trees, and animals... and even a beautiful spring somewhere within the forest! She was sure he will come to love it. While she didn't want to seem like she was rushing to let the day begin, she could only contain her excitement for so long!

Once he awakens, Kaede gives him a soft smile as she leans back up. "Good morning...! Ahaha, I'm sorry if you wanted to sleep in, but I figured that you would want to get an early head start on our little 'adventure' today...! I know you've been rather curious about everything this forest has to offer, and I will make sure to show you as much of it as I can. Hehe don't worry, I will still make us at least something to eat before we head out so that you're not walking around on an empty stomach. I'm very excited for today! I love this forest and everything in it! I'm sure you will, too...~!"
