Perhaps it was unwise to stop and help everyone Celeste saw stranded on the side of the road, but she had to be honest. The man looked pitiful sitting there with a smoking engine and other cars in sight. She was stronger than she looked, and it wasn’t even her safety she was worried about; she just didn’t want to meet the wrong sorts of people.
After a moment of indecision, she turned her hazards on and pulled off the road behind the man. “Hey, kid. You need any help? It, uh, doesn’t look good,” she said with a bit of a smile. There was always the chance he had already called someone, but she’d been in town long enough to know he wasn’t a local.
