If any characters had to get thrown into the Magnus Archives universe, these two are probably the best to do it.
Cecil records stories that no one should know, faint static echoing in his voice as he narrates the fears of those who have given their statements to the Usher Foundation. He knows so little and yet Sees so much. He is a mystery, an enigmatic figure. He begins to notice a pattern one day, of a man described to have “perfect hair and teeth like a military cemetery”, showing up on the edge of various statements.
Carlos has needed to know more about the beings that lurk beyond the edges of reality since he wandered into a Lonely desert otherworld. Even now, he can still feel the burning heat and sand whispering against his legs sometimes. He needs to know more, know what else is out there, Know how to protect himself and as many other people as he can. So he becomes active in a community of people trying to learn more, tracks down what remaining research that he can, teams up with a man with hair as poorly dyed as Carlos’s is perfect.
One day, his research leads him to the Usher Foundation- not just as a site of collected information, but as a site of mysterious happenings of its own.
It’s then that Cecil sees this mysterious, monster researching man in person for the first time. And, as he states on his tape recorder afterwards, “I fell in love instantly.”
