Honestly I never really liked Hachi and Shoji's relationship. I didn't really feel any chemistry between them and their relationship felt kinda forced from the beginning. They were very incompatible and destined to fail. If Shoji hadn't cheated on Hachi with Sachiko, I think Hachi would've cheated with Takumi or Nobu first.
