DIY Ant Bait Recipe
Ants are about to start getting bad in places where spring seems to start in February. (If you live in a state where spring doesn’t start until April like it should, you still have a few months.) But we provide pest control in Sacramento, CA where it warms up early, and we are already starting to see ants in kitchens.
That’s why we wanted to share this quick and cheap recipe for ant bait. These are safer than store-bought bait if you have pets or kids in your house too.
DIY Ant Baits
The ratio is:
1 teaspoon boric acid (like Borax)
1 cup sugar
Mix them together. Put the bait in bottle caps, on aluminum foil, or on a paper plate. Then put it right on the line of ants. You may need 20 or more bait stations to actually get rid of ants.
The ants will take the bait back to their colony and share it. The boric acid is toxic to ants and will eventually kill the entire colony. It can take 3 to 4 weeks, though, so be patient. You can also switch out the sugar for another food ants might like such as honey, butter, or peanut butter. You can even try a few to see what works best.
