I find myself suddenly overwhelmed with exciting new (or new-to-me) albums that I feel compelled to recommend to you: ☠️ 1. Olhava - Reborn (2022). Atmospheric black metal/black gaze from rural Russia. You’ll feel swallowed up in nature. The cover art is so awesome you owe the band one listen just for beholding it. 🔥 2. Decapitated - Cancer Culture (2022). This is the angry statement I prayed they’d release after a five year hiatus. Everything I wanted it to be and more. 🔥 3. Ante-Inferno - Antediluvian Dreamscapes (2022). UK black metal that hits the sweet spot for me. 🔥 4. Tension - Decay (2022). German #NWOTHM that nails the genre to perfection. I had no idea twin guitars could make me so giddy. 🔥 5. Cherokee - Blood & Gold (2021). German hard rock/trad metal with an outstanding female vocalist. If you recognize the power of bands like Blood Star and Savage Master, you’ll love this. Strong late 70s vibe here, with a production that hits all the good nostalgia buttons. 🔥 6. Armory - Mercurion (2022). Space-themed trad metal from Sweden. I didn’t know this recipe existed, and now it’s all I want to eat. ☠️

The Metalhead Box: October 2021 (Tape Edition). This month’s Box is outstanding! They promised a Halloween theme, and they delivered with aplomb. Here’s what lies inside:

Shirt: “…And the Dead Live On!” This features zombified visages of departed metal artists: Chuck Schulinder, Jeff Hanneman, Ronnie James Dio, Peter Steele, Dead, Euronymous, and Killjoy. Best Box shirt to date, IMO.

Patch: King Diamond Pin: “Killjoy Lives” (Necrophagia) Mini-Poster: Evil Dead inspired artwork featuring Dead from Mayhem. Brilliant! Autograph Card: Acid Witch Tape 1: Acid With - It’s Halloween Night (cassingle!) Tape 2: Ante-Inferno - Fane Tape 3: Bihargam - Ove Tenebrae They hit a home run with this Halloween box. Everything in this one is excellent and worth keeping. The two albums were both new to me, but each was very good and will get repeated listens. The crown jewel is that shirt!

ALBUMS OF THE WEEK! Today’s winner is Haunt with their surprise drop, Unplugged Vol. 1. As the name suggests, this is an acoustic set of some of the band’s best songs. I really love unplugged albums when they are done right (example: Alice In Chains!), and this one does not disappoint. Next up, a pair of black metal albums from the new Metalhead Box: Ante-Inferno and Bihargam. Creeping Death’s new EP, The Edge of Existence, finally made it to my mailbox, so that gem got some well deserved plays. ALBUMS OF THE WEEK! Here’s what occupied my stereo while the world burned this week. Decapitated’s new album, Cancer Culture, came out hot. I’ve been playing it non-stop and feel like it was worth the excruciatingly long wait. Next up, I got some anthology albums from Medieval Steel and The Spawn of Satan, both of which provide hours of fist-pumping action.
