sirius black may have been the first born, but in the eyes of his mother and father, he would never be the heir. it had been clear from the day that his brother, regulus, was born that he would be the lost cause — the one that took everything that his mother and father had given him and, in their words, spat out, in front of them. he may have loved his family, but he would never feel like he belonged to it.
the line of allegiance between the two brothers is one that’s formed early, regulus standing before his parents the death eaters, and sirius, the boy that looked back as he crossed the line to join the order. he didn’t join because he wanted to defy his family — he joined because, in his heart, he knew that it was the right thing to do. it wasn’t without sacrifice, a turmoil in his heart, but at least here he had made a family within his friends.
years go by and the brothers are on speaking terms, but conversations are cut too short and sirius is convinced that, at this point, whatever hope they had for a relationship is quickly vanishing. both of them knowing that there’s a certain man who is starting to get more and more power — and if sirius is being honest with himself, there’s a good chance that he could win.
it isn’t until a couple of weeks before october 31st, 1978 when regulus confides in sirius that he has something. it’s something so powerful it could turn the death eater’s on its axis. at the time, sirius had been too shocked to say anything, thinking that maybe this was some kind of dirty trick — the death eaters using sirius’ own brother against him. but then there’s a look of desperation on his brother’s face that makes him take his word. that was the beginning of the end for everything. now, sirius and regulus black are currently in hiding waiting for what to do next with this secret power and second chance at brotherhood that they have been given.
