This is a video made by request of José on Facebook. He asked "Hey. I use audacity but I don't play drums or have anything to record drums. I wanted to record songs on audacity with midi drums but I don't know how. Can you make a video on that, please? Stay cool!" Since Audacity doesn't work with MIDI very well, I showed a work around by using a tempo track, label grid, and loops. Hopefully this will help Jose and others looking to make their own beats without drums in Audacity.
Night Gallery was created in Octamed Pro 4, for the Amiga Computer on a Raspberry Pi running Amibian. The song was then copied to a Zoom PS-04 where I added live drums in real-time to recording this video. New song and video recorded using a Tascam Porta 02 MKII cassette 4 track recorder. Mics I used on the drums were Nady RSM-5 ribbon on the overhead, and a CAD KBM 412 placed about 3 feet out in front of the kick. I ran the bass direct into the 4 track and the keys are software synths going out from my computer into the 4track. Only 4 tracks were used. Mastered in audacity. Here's a pretty 90s sounding ambient song that I could see in an old top down RPG in some exotic land. I composed the track in Rosegarden and used the Qsynth/Fluidsynth soundfont player for sounds. The soundfont is of a Kawai K1 Synthesizer. Dedicated to Fornax Void.
I'm still having a lot of fun with Rosegarden. This was made with all soundfonts I've created played in Qsynth/FluidSynth, and sequenced in Rosgarden along with a guitar track. The soundfonts are a 68 Slingerland drum kit, Casio CT-370 and Kawai K1. I also used Rosegarden's time stretch feature on a couple of the guitar clips. The visuals are provided by ProjectM. System is Ubuntu 16.04LTS with Icewm instead of Unity on a 2007 Santa Rosa black Apple Macbook.
