trying to work out body proportions for my lizards characters. this one is based off a cyclurid iguana

had a few revelations about the lizards in the books...

the monitors are pretty much divvied up into 3 broad categories - the narrow-faced monitors (tree monitors), the long faced monitors (lace, komodo, water, crocodile, etc), and the short faced monitors (black- and white-throated monitors, savannah, etc). that's about the furthest they acknowledge species -- though they still acknowledge that breeding along species lines (as per defined by their appearances -- so they look for similar physical features, mostly color when choosing a mate [when children are the goal of the relationship]) are what typically produce viable offspring.

geckos on the other hand, aggressively maintain species differences and are quick to point out the differences between species. 

does that make sense? I mean, all monitors fall into the same genus, but geckos are an infraorder, so they've got a whole lot more variety.

i'll have to draw these again in pen to actually show off what they look like and you don't have to try to read that faint handwriting
