Rolyo in Action
So, I'm sorry it's been a while. I just haven't had the urge to draw for a while. And when I did draw, didn't have the confidence to upload it. I've decided my goal this year is to become a better artist. Saying that though doesn't take much effort, doing it does. The only way to become good is to start bad. Not to say my art is bad, but my brain may think that sometimes. Hope you're having a good day and you improve on your work, whatever that work is.

Fred the Dog in Once Upon a Weiner (Storyboard Video 2000 VHS)
Prior to animating, and after the script, the story needs to be blocked out via storyboards before the drawing phase of cartooning. I did my best to time the storyboards with the cartoon so you could see how the layout worked on the final product. You can also see how some of the colors changed for the backgrounds and what was included in the storyboards and what was not.
The captions beneath the storyboards might go by too quick to read but, again, I was trying to time the storyboards with the cartoon itself so feel free to pause where need to read the storyboards.
Anyway, this is some behind-the-scenes stuff for you and a bit about what goes into making a cartoon.
Enjoy,

Here it is, the cartoon that started it all. Made in 2000, each frame was drawn, inked, and colored by yours truly. This is 2D animation the old-fashioned way. No computer assistance outside of the coloring, staging the frames, and the sound. Everything else was good ol' pencil, ink, and paper.
This is the dog that inspired my webcomic, FREDRIKUS. Of course, in the webcomic, he's middle-aged compared to this reel where he's still a young guy doing something stupid.
It was real cool and real fun to watch this reel after 20 years. Yes, it's pixelated. Was originally formatted for VHS and the tape's been sitting around gathering dust for a couple decades. I don't know how much wear that puts on the tape itself (degrading over time), but I'm still glad I got to salvage this cartoon and share it with you.
Hope you like it! Enjoy!
