Jonathan saying he hates the color pink on Nancy (even though it’s the color she wears the most), never trusting her intuition, and always placating her instead of talking things through.

And then there’s Robin playing ‘Pretty in Pink’ on the radio while Nancy was listening, raving about Nancy’s shot in the dark being a bullseye and then consistently trusting her plans and decisions/doing her best to ensure they work out, and challenging Nancy when she’s being stubborn instead of placating her. Doing everything she can to make sure Nancy knows that she’s there for her always even when Jonathan himself is too busy being stupid abt Steve to really pay attention to what’s going on with her.

Oh, I know Nancy dreams about that girl.

I just know a man wrote this shit. This wouldn’t be romanticized if they gave a woman the pen. If any man gave away my clothes because THEY DIDN’T LIKE THE COLOR and stood by WHILE I LOOKED FOR IT… oh no giggles no hugs no heart to heart it’s ON SIGHT. Remember in season 1 how everyone (pointedly, Jnathan) was telling Nancy that she was "pretending"? And Jnathan really only started to take her seriously once they started working together and she was focused on something he deemed important? Even now, he seems to hold disdain for Nancy when she champions causes that don't align with his or acts outside of this image he has- his active respect for her is somewhat tied to his ability to view her as "not like other girls" in the moment, as if she somehow should be above certain things.

It makes me think of this fandom's obsession with "independent gun girl" Nancy. How people feel like it's regressive for her to be soft or romantic or to want/need support from a partner. As if her character is being trivialized when her story doesn't play out in a way that's in line with how they want her to be (alone and miserable in a room full of guns, apparently).

Like, idk man, I was just thinking about this in the context of canon and it hit me that Steve Harrington has liked EVERY version of Nancy. Every single one of them. The naive, "prissy", 16 y/o nerd. The girl who rebelled and went to parties. The one who was drowning in grief. The one who broke his heart. The one who wields guns and blows off monsters' heads with a molotov cocktail. The woman who will stop at nothing to pursue the truth. Who teases with jokes and has celebrity crushes and will bite your head off for saying the wrong thing. Who is headstrong and obstinate and driven and protective and loving and compassionate.

There is no part of her this boy doesn't love, and no conditions to that love.

i cannot believe people are really supporting jonathan's side of not wanting to go see HIS GIRLFRIEND and BE THERE FOR HER and GIVE HER A HUG after her parents ALMOST DIED. like she literally found her mum in the kitchen slowly bleeding out from multiple deep wounds over her body and somehow any mission they'd planned takes priority over that??? "but steve wanted to give her flowers!" yeah because it's what you do when a loved one is in hospital!! if steve can cook he'd probably offer to bring a fucking lasagna too, not because he's trying to butt in on their relationship, but because he's trying to be a DECENT HUMAN BEING.

jon puts her first! jon supports her! jon supports her wanting to go to college and have a career! HE CAN'T EVEN SUPPORT HER AT A TIME WHEN SHE NEEDS IT THE MOST.

do you agree with the ones that say that steve had a regression this season?

I don't at all, actually. To me, he felt super in-character? Like, from his perspective, he's chill with Jon, he's willing to be friends with him, from what we saw in season four. And then Jon shows up and is still the Jon from season 1 who doesn't like Steve, and he seems unwilling to respect him or see his changes. After a certain point, if you're just trying to be nice to this dude and respect his relationship but he's being rude in return, and you're in love with his girlfriend and you can tell she's miserable because of how he's acting, you get to a point where you're just fed up. He's a human being, not Mr. Perfect.

Him being super concerned for Nancy after the Wheelers were attacked is so the Steve we've seen this whole show. And the fact that he just wants Nancy to be happy, so he's like "If she's going to be in a relationship with you, Jon, stop making her miserable and stop focusing on me and fix your relationship," that's mature of him. That doesn't sound like regression to me. And with Dustin, I think he's concerned about his friend and doesn't know how to help him and is getting frustrated with his behaviour, so his conversations with him felt realistic to me?

So I don't think he has regressed as a character.
