I think the target pride merch this year is really funny because it’s so clearly a reaction to complaints of pride merch being empty and liberal and “rainbow capitalism” while still being liberal and rainbow capitalism. This month I think we, to retain any sense of self respect, have to remember that just because something references stonewall or throwing bricks doesn’t make it suddenly radical or even meaningful in any way. You could slap the gender accelerationist manifesto on a cute little tote bag and it would still be rainbow capitalism, it would still be empty, it would still be a corporation profiting off the struggles, oppression and work of queer people and nothing except it not being merchandise sold by a corporation could ever change that.
