One of the most misogynist things BA shippers say is how Betty is "pure" and "innocent" when she is with Archie and how Jughead "ruins" Betty or pulls her into the dark side, whatever that means. It's honestly such a disgusting thing to say, I can't with that fandom
is this about that kat girl? i saw some of that and oof, that’s a bad take. if you ever need proof that being a professional means someone’s takes can be just as bad as anyone else’s i mean...*gestures vaguely in her direction*
the b/a’s have been telling me that for a while though, so i assume it’s a talking point of theirs. like, sure, let’s take the very core of an issue within the comics and apply it to betty broadly because reasons. it’s always, let’s totally ignore the way that betty could *actually* get taken advantage of in a bad relationship while vulnerable and ignore all the ways the show has shown us that jughead actually supports her from going too far.
it’s not like he started a vigilante group against a mostly disadvantaged socioeconomic class or anything.
(jughead makes plenty of mistakes too, some of them very cringe worthy at times—they all do. i’m simply saying that archie isn’t the squeaky clean hero they seem to see him as)
betty can go to the dark all on her own, and will, if no one is looking out for her. and sometimes even when they are. and the problem i have with b/a isn’t a shipping preference so much as an opinion that they’re too fundamentally different.
betty and archie’s idea of what is right often clashes and she’s not scared to steam roll over him when he doesn’t agree with her. he doesn’t pull her back, he’s not capable. he’ll only start to judge her instead of try and see where she’s coming from (aka jughead’s soft concern and support vs archie’s baffled disbelief at some of her stunts).
veronica has been far more supportive of her antics than archie has over the years, tbh. putting betty on a pedestal and proclaiming her innocent and pure while she’s with archie vs when she’s on her own or with jughead makes me think they have no idea that you’re not always the person you are in the first month of sophomore year in high school. and that...tracks.
