In order to stay young forever, one must have specidif antiaging systems in place. When a mental shift occurs in changing your focus to more of an internal method, you don't have to worry as much about external aging (skin aging). When this happens, you'll find a very nice additional benefit (since your internal aging mechanisms have slowed down, your skin will stop aging as well.
If one were to pinpoint one of the most crucial antiaging systems to identify, it would have to be the mitochondrial system. As far as the connection to aging, studies on mitochondria (the small organelles inside cells that are the "power plant" that creates energy) have grown by leaps and bounds in the last few years.
With this explosion of research on aging, studies on mitochondria have uncovered important findings, including:
As compared to young people, older folks have dramatically fewer mitochondria, and the ones they do have are damaged and function poorly.
Almost every major chronic disease is connected to loss of mitochondrial function and number (including heart disease, cancer, and diabetes).
Maintaining mitochondrial number and function as one ages is directly associated with longevity, increased mental sharpness, and greater physical capabilities.
Oxidative stress (free radicals) and AGEs (advanced glycation end-products, something I wrote an entire chapter on in my book) are known to damage mitochondria and lead to the ultimate loss of these crucial organelles.
The "mitochondrial biogenesis and maintain function" system is quite possibly the most important antiaging system one could engage in. That is to say, one must take the appropriate measures to increase the actual numbers of mitochondria while protecting and increasing the function of the ones already inside of cells (remember, young people have lots of mitochondria that function very well, while older folks have the exact opposite situation going on).
There are numerous ways to increase the number and function of mitochondria, and I go into much greater detail in my book, Shrink Your Wrinkles.
If your goal is to keep your mind, body and skin young forever, you must concentrate on an antiaging system like the mitochondrial preservation system just discussed. You'll maintain your looks, and have a sharp mind and physically capable body to go along with it, too!
There are also a number of sites and articles available for more information on antiaging systems.
