Set the pan on medium heat and stir the mixture often as you bring it to a gentle simmer. Once the mixture begins to thicken, turn down the heat to low and keep cooking, stirring every now and then, for another 5 to 7 minutes, or until the porridge is the consistency you want. Add the coconut oil or ghee and mix it in until it melts and is fully mixed in. If you're using a sweetener, mix it into the porridge after adding it. Take the porridge off the heat and let it cool down a bit before you serve it. Put the oatmeal into bowls and top with your favorite things, like berries, shredded coconut, or sliced almonds.
