The Betjemann’s ladies dressing case, dated 1877, exhibiting a sense of detail and luxury reminiscent of the great Martin-Guillaume Biennais (1764-1843), one of the principal Parisian artisans of the late 18th century and the early decades of the 19th century, who was also a "tabletier" and skilled cabinet maker.
George Betjemann (1798-1886) and Sons designs, assembled with comparable aesthetics, but perhaps even more complicated mechanism, the numerous delicate accessories cleverly stored within, seems to have been produced only once. The whole is lavishly engraved with gilt metal mounts.
