Imagine living in a city for a decade and “never” going to a restaurant, store, school or business where you’re the majority. Imagine 95% of successful people in every industry identifies as different than you. And in all those places, people who look like the majority, have the audacity to be hateful, disrespectful, and arrogant towards you. Now imagine going to your place of worship to find hope and the disgusting attitudes are expressed on your building. What do you say to your kids when they ask “why do they treat us this way?” Not being racist isn’t good enough. I’m not asking you to understand, I’m asking you to change it. Change the definition of American to include treating the people who live here with dignity and respect! Stop giving people the benefit of doubt who are harming those who live here. Change the definition of patriotism to include respecting the diverse people and their families who fight and give their life for the freedoms we enjoy!
