What Was Stolen - Post Veilguard Fanfiction
Rookanis | Lords of Fortune | Slow Burn | Hinted DreadRook | Pirate Adventure
A year or so after the final blight, Thedas is trudging through its tumultuous path to recovery. Syvillia 'Rook' Laidir has left the Lighthouse and returned to treasure hunting with the Lords of Fortune, flitting about Rivain with her good friend Taash and hoping to put the past behind her. Rook and Illario catch up to Lucanis and manage to warn him about the magister that might be hunting her charge. Their reunion is fleeting, as his duties as First Talon pulls him away. The night wears on, and there is still no sign of the magister, but in the darkness of the Palace Gardens, Rook and Illario are confronted with the beginnings of a devastating invasion from a mysterious group of interlopers.
Today feels all dark and twisty. So I painted Josie asleep at her desk as dawn breaks the next morning.

Snippet:
“I know how chevaliers fight,” he remarked off-handedly and motioned for me to follow him. When I didn't immediately do so and instead shot him a questioning look, he paused and elaborated. “You asked me when we were in the coach, but I never answered. I know how they fight. I've witnessed them...” It seemed as if he was going to say more, but then thought better of it. I took the lead and he fell in step behind me as we continued our stroll. Hopefully he wouldn't try to change the conversation back to me.
“You think you can beat him?” I asked as we came upon a large rose bush on our left. “They're the finest warriors in all of Thedas, and you're not permitted magical or spirit aid.” It wasn't an attempt to discourage him, but I didn't want him to get overconfident.
He shrugged. “I don't rely on that for mere sparring matches.” There was a slight pause before he continued. “So, when can I expect Monsieur Chevalier to pull a poisoned dagger on me or have someone shoot me on his behalf?”
“If he's true to the chevalier code, he won't,” I argued. “Even though it's not an actual duel.”
He looked genuinely surprised. “But he will employ tactics, no?”
“Definitely.”

There is strength to being soft, and sometimes trauma has a way of making people more empathetic than anyone could have possibly dreamed. This is a fic that will explore how these concepts play out for our dear Lady Ambassador. Many thanks to @jasperthedapper @notyourparadigm & @antivan-beau for your contributions that helped me get this fic ready to publish!
What does it say about me if all my favorite DA companions to romance are Antivans. 😅

CONFESSION:
After playing Inquisition, I decided to go back to Origins and play the entire series again. I've realized that I didn't understand half of the cultural information in Origins. Finding out that Ostagar was built by Tevinter actually means something to me now and learning the Antivans are known for killing with kindness and poison is hilarious now because of Josephine.
