What Was Stolen - Post Veilguard Fanfiction

A year or so after the final blight, Thedas is trudging through its tumultuous path to recovery. Syvillia 'Rook' Laidir has left the Lighthouse and returned to treasure hunting with the Lords of Fortune, flitting about Rivain with her good friend Taash and hoping to put the past behind her. Rook and Illario catch up to Lucanis and manage to warn him about the magister that might be hunting her charge. Their reunion is fleeting, as his duties as First Talon pulls him away. The night wears on, and there is still no sign of the magister, but in the darkness of the Palace Gardens, Rook and Illario are confronted with the beginnings of a devastating invasion from a mysterious group of interlopers.

CONFESSION:

Lets set aside Loghain’s involvement for this; I think it’s very strange how flippant people in general react to Orlesians in regards to Ferelden. Cailan in origins calling the Occupation, many of whom would still be alive even by Inquisition, ‘petty disagreements’ is kind of appalling, especially after I read stolen throne (and that orlesian girl in Denerim breaking down what it’s legal for chevaliers to do). It’s barely been a couple generations! Neither trust nor people heal that quickly. I see why them forming on the edge of the border, even for the blight, would be cause for alarm. Especially when you see in inquisition that several orlesians think they should invade again.

Okay, so, one question has been haunting me and I now feel the need to plague you with it, too: do Orlesian nobles get maskne?

Fun fact: I have actually not decided who Evelyn is going to make ruler of Orlais.

I don’t trust Gaspard one bit. Even with Briala, I still feel Gaspard will cause more harm than good.

I don’t trust Celene either, but feel more confident that the Inquisitor can twist her arm into doing the right thing. I’d trust her more with Briala, but I’ve heard Celene was abusive towards her (I don’t know a lot about this honestly but I’ve seen it in passing on here) and I don’t want to reunite them if that’s the case

If I force the three of them to work together, then I feel like it’s a ticking time bomb before it breaks into civil war again or they join forces to plot against me

I see no good answer here??? They’re literally all horrible options????
