WHY IS EVERYONE SHIPPING YUKI X ZERO? LIKE WTF I didnt read the mangas only saw the anime but I know whats happening I read a lot.. so I know everything from the story;; Zero is great but I love Kaname more with Yuki he's soooo dominant I love them both together!
So even didn’t you read the manga? Wow. I’m not surprised then. If you like a “dominant”–abusive–arrogant–selfish–manipulative man, it’s ok. Same if you like a toxic–miserable relationship. Totally good for you. But if you really want to know “why everyone is shipping Zeki”, here are some reasons why I think they do: • They’re so radiant, even to Kaname’s eyes. • They’re soulmates. • They’re canon. And last but not least:• They aren’t Yuume. That’s all you deserve to know♡
Ok so recent analysis in the tag got me thinking about vampire knight again, and more specifically, the symbolism of the roses. My opinion is that majority of Hino’s art represents Zeki through pink roses and Yume through red roses. This random train of thought was sparked by smilefromtheheartalways who posted an interesting interpretation of the volume covers. As such, some of the ideas mentioned are influenced from that post so I’ll link it [here]
This post is a bit lengthy and I know that most of my followers aren’t following me for vampire knight stuff, so the rest is under the cut:
Ok so I know that the symbolism of flowers in Hino’s art has been done before, but I don’t remember seeing any discussions about this particular opinion.
I’ll start with the meanings of the roses…
Red should be fairly obvious; love, passion, courage, respect.
I’ve found that the meaning of pink roses vary depending on the shade of pink, but generally is seen as representative of love, gratitude/appreciation, elegance/grace, admiration, sweetness/gentleness, joy/happiness.
Pink circles = zeki
Red circles = yume
Ok so my first evidence of this theory is in the following image
Red rose in resin that is an obvious representation of yumes relationship as it is something that Kaname gives to Yuki that she cherishes. It could also link to Yuki feeling “trapped” in the relationship as the rose is forever sealed within the resin but that’s a whole other can of worms.
Then there is this image, with the clear separation of Zeki and Kaname. Yuki is seen to be in the outfit she wore to the ball, so I think it is safe to assume the pink rose she is holding is the rose she pins on Zero, in comparison to the red rose in resin given to Yuki from Kaname. This pink rose is separated and contrasted with Kaname’s own red rose.
The above image I think is the most clear-cut evidence of the representation of zeki through pink roses. I think it speaks for itself; zeki focused image utilises pink rose motif again.
Again we witness the use of pink flowers in zeki images. Whilst they are not roses, I decided to include them anyways as it follows the pink pattern.
Zero on his own this time, but still with the symbolic pink petals falling through his fingers. These bloodstained petals are perhaps representative of Zero’s regret regarding letting Yuki go in the first arc, hence why the petals are slipping through his fingers. The blood may represent Zero’s guilt of having “tainted” Yuki with his “unforgiveable” acts of drinking from her. Or perhaps he feels that Yuki being re-introduced into the vampire world has taken away her smile.
Here we can see zeki once again being separated from kaname, as Zero and Yuki both have their eyes close with Kaname looming over them, and we can clearly see the pink roses surrounding Zeki and remaining on only the zeki side of the cover.
Not particularly prominent, but I thought I would add this image as it shows Zero holding a pink rose and adds another example of zeki linking with pink roses.
Now, onto the red roses. If we were to assume that pink roses represent zeki, then red roses surely represent yume. This would give a whole new meaning to the above image, where Yuki is displayed behind bars with red roses twisting around them and subsequently imprisoning her.
Here we can see a red rose on a cuff-like bracelet that has chain links piercing the rose; chain links not unlike the chain Zero is seen to be bound by. I think it speaks for itself if we take the red rose as representative of yume and there are chain links piercing the rose.
Once again we see Zeki separated from Kaname, with the red roses behind the torn material with Kaname.
I’ll admit, there are some images where it would seem that the particular rose colour plays a part more in aesthetics than deeper meaning. For example, the images of Zero and Kaname in white tuxes whilst holding pink roses. But whilst that does occur occasionally, I do think that the particular flower colour is important to many other images.
Now… To the point that I’ve been building up to:
Notice the very similar attire in these images. In the first, Yuki is being forcefully separated from Zero and as such this particular dress would have the entrapment connotations that I have come to associate with yume. Thus I don’t think that it’s a coincidence that a very similar dress was used in the volume 19 cover. The volume 19 cover at first glance is a yume image. However, when you consider the similarity of the dress leading to an association with the first image displaying despair and entrapment, as well as the pink roses used in both images, you can clearly see Zeki undertones. I don’t believe that its coincidence that Yuki is wearing pink roses in both images; it symbolises where her heart truly lies and her ever present connection to Zero, despite not being physically with Zero in the images. Not to mention the fact that the background of volume 19 reminds me of the very “deep dark forest” that she has been desperately trying to escape with Zero.
Even if you believe the red roses to have no deeper meaning, the many times Zeki is featured with pink roses can’t be simply coincidence.
I haven’t written about zeki in ages and this is years too late but whatever. That’s just my anti-yume thoughts, radiant zeki thoughts. Completely unbiased of course B-)
