Misdirection, cheap parlor tricks, smoke and mirrors... The witch had learned a long time ago that this ‘magic’ was the most pleasing to those he came across. Coins disappearing from the palms of his hands, ‘reappearing’ on another’s person, and things of that sort did not cause trouble. It was something done a million times before, but amused all the same.

It was particularly amusing for the children, who dragged their parents to his aging cart in an attempt to catch the trick’s ins and outs. The children were entertained, leaving their mothers or occasionally their fathers the time to possibly look at his wares and purchase something.

As expected, children and their parents flocked his cart. What was not expected was the murmurs of distracted excitement of all; the princess.

The witch, who had been perched upon his cart in his long black cloak looking much like the crows that would dart about the sky day in and day out, carefully dropped to the ground and giving a low bow in one fluid motion.

“Your Highness,” Golden eyes peered up from under the hood that covered his head. A hand extended, palm closed only to open and present the bloom of a red rose; unwilted, as if never being in the palm of his hand at all. “Many blessings to you.”
