Antlerite is a relatively rare mineral. Antlerite forms secondarily under acidic conditions in the oxidation zone of copper deposits . These conditions prevail, especially in arid climate, under which prefers antlerite forms, but also in slags of ancient copper smelters. It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system and develops mostly short, prismatic to needle-like crystals, but also crusty coatings and earthy aggregates of emerald to black-green color. Antlerite is a potential raw material for copper extraction.
