when you take the time to truly connect the violence and grittiness surrounding the two brothers as they get distant from everything that once meant safety and familiarity to them in texas, it plays out beautifully. the melodramatic music is constantly trying to give you a sense of loss that is systematically stripping burt sullivan of his purpose and even his sense of self...draining him of the happiness he once knew in his hometown.
