My shower and Toliet renovation are finally being finished today. Not mine bathroom but my father's. He had his work done yesterday. Mine will look similar.
She is freaking out. She usually sleeps in her own bed. Happens every 4th.
The National Mall celebration was cancelled due to extreame weather. lol. Divine intervention.
Platoon by William Oliver Stone who made Born of the 4TH of July. This stars Charlie Sheen, Willem Dafoe, Keith David, Forest Whitaker and . We follow Chris Taylor who young dumb rich kid who dropped out of college to volunteered to go Vietnam. He joins a platoon who mission is to combat and patrol. in the jungle of Vietnam. Chris gets a wake up call to see that this war is changing him and the people around him.
Oliver Stone was vet of Vietnam and was semi autobiographical and based on his experiences. The movies shows two Sergeants who have conflicting ideals with one who retains his humanity by being compassionate and the other who is brutal and does not see the humanity of vietnamese. This is one of the more gut wrenching movies with a lot of the actions taken by soldiers being just being cruel. A lot of Oliver Stone's views can also be seen in Born on the 4th of July.
The movie doesn't have a score but uses Adagio For Strings by Samuel Barber which is classical music number written in 1936.
Apocalypse Now by Francis Ford Coppola who gave us Dracula and Godfather. This stars Martin Sheen, Marlon Brando, Dennis Hopper, and a very young Laurence Fishburne. This follows Captain Willard who is given to search and kill Colonel Kurtz who went AWOL and now the military needs him taken out. Willard is joined by small band of soldiers who must travel up river to find Kurtz .
This movie gives another perspective from the war as we see the inhumanity that soldiers inflict fight in a war that no business being there. You see indiscriminate killing of civilians and maniac Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore who is an evil war mongering freak who more concerned with surfing than the human life he is taking. Even the young soldiers who are just trigger happy. The movie is not based a real event but did take in stories of real vets who did and saw things that were very similar to their experience.
The movie is brutal at times and dark and depressing with death happening throughout and there is very real slaughter of real cow which was so messed up. Much of the movie is explores the descent into madness. It is beautifully filmed but I was not a fan of the synth score.
The film does feature a young Harrison Ford but it is very small Role but it was 2 years after star wars and may have been filming Empire Strikes Back shortly after.
Like most vietnam movies they incorporate a lot of music from that period.
Full Metal Jacket by Stanley Kubrick is based on a semi-autobiographical novel The Short-Timers by Gustav Hasford. This film adaptation stars Matthew Modine, R. Lee Ermey, Vincent D'Onofrio, Adam Baldwin, Dorian Harewood and Kevyn Major Howard. This movie gives a real good look at what a solider went through during Vietnam war, starting from boot camp to out in the field. We follow private Joker who must go through boot camp and must help fellow private named Pyle who can't seem to get it together. After Boot camp Joker is an military field journalist who finally get to see action but it maybe more than he bargained for.
From what I hear from some vets and high school friend who went into the army that this is pretty close to what the experience of boot camp is. R. Lee Ermey was a real drill Sgt. and his dialogue was written by Stanley and him but funny thing was that R. Lee did not like to curse. The movie feels like 2 movies because the first 1 hour is spent in boot camp and then we see what life was like in Vietnam. The war changes people and some were already sick in the head. As soldiers didn't see Vietnamese as human and you see this loss of humanity.
This was Vincent D'Onofrio first movie and got the roll because he was buddies with Matthew Modine who was already cast and suggest he audition. D'Onofrio next movie after this was Adventures in Babysitting.
For some reason both Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket both have synth scores. Though Full Metal has this eerie metal scrapping sound.
The movie does have music tracks but are kinda bizarre choices that are juxtapose to the scenes.
its the 4th of July and America turns 250. not much to celebrate with our evil war mongering admin willing to kill soldiers to further a bat shit crazy agenda from a mad man who wants to be king.
