Feeding a wild colony of Black Tyrant Ants - Iridomyrmex anceps. These girls are always on speed. I tried and i tried to get photos without using honey but it was impossible 😑 always darting around. These photos were taken at 2x and 3x respectively. Those bamboos I found were swarming with new exciting ants! Here is another species I haven't found before elsewhere near the village. Camponotus nicobarensis !! They were farming these small insects. Shield Ants!! I am so excited with these photos 😁 This species is called Meranoplus bicolor. Their bodies are covered with protective hairs which prevent other ants from biting and stinging them. They also have a stinger of their own, but they don't seem to use it for stinging but for segregating a strong chemical. My fantastic new capture!! An Trap Jaw ant queen (Odontomachus simillimus) with two larvae. While looking for isopods at night, i was turning over a set of bricks in my garden, and I found this fantastic queen. Odontomachus have really taken over half of the garden area. The garden is filled with small spiders, isopods, crickets, roaches, millipedes. An alate Odontomachus Queen. I caught this queen on my garden, a residential area inside Nakhon Ratchasima city. It is not the typical primary forest where I am used to find these ponerine ants. Any guesses? Paratrechina longicornis or Iridomyrmex anceps? Difficult to say right ? Its Iridomyrmex anceps, they are slightly larger than BCA, but have similar random chaotic movement 😉 The Black Tyrant Ants! Black crazy ants are the new most spread out ant species at this time. The soil is pretty dry and they seem to be occupying most of the shaded dried out areas. After a more detailed inspection it turned out it is a Crematogaster sp. Queen.
