Shiny Acrobat Ant (Crematogaster laeviuscula) tending to her flock

Trying to draw more bugs in this super simple stick art style. Hopefully I can simply them while still having them be recognizable. Is there any other bugs you'd like me to simplify? Let me know!

ants are famously nosy creatures, so this Crematogaster scutellaris poking her head in an empty leaf mine isn't the most surprising thing in the world, but i do wonder what was so interesting about it to her. whoever the occupant was had long since pupated or been eaten, and as hardcore as ants may be, i doubt she'd be singlehandedly responsible for the latter

a rarely-encountered ant cricket (Myrmecophilus) among Crematogaster ants. these myrmecophiles are adapted to living in ant colonies and solicit food from ants for nourishment.

I'm convinced that Crematogaster ants use their gasters to communicate with each other. When one of these ants finds food she likes they raise their gasters up higher than if it's just water.

Raising the gaster is recognized as a "threat display" as they will do it to warn other insects that they can fight back.

But why raise the gaster just because they taste sugar water rather than regular water?

It's also very very cute.

Crematogaster sp. Ants’ Trail and Nest:

I was walking past a tree, and I noticed what was apparently a trail of ants. I saw ants using this trail. If I am not wrong, the hole in the tree is their nest.

Used tools wear out, appear shiny, smooth and clean. The path that is often tread can be seen clearly. Similarly, this trail of ants can also be seen clearly, well used...

Few ants were seen in and around the hole in the tree, while others were seen on the trail. While the hole - with many ants - was beside the trail, the trail extended beyond that hole.

The tree's tissue/ wood under trail (area) appears to be different than that seen elsewhere.

I also found it interesting the way tree has a hole in it, with small creatures living in it, yet that doesn't appear to be harmful to tree.

These 'Mother Trees' provide so much to many different creatures, and they are home of several organisms.

Ant Nest in the Making

September is the breeding season for some ants. For the last couple of days I’ve been seeing nuptial flights in Tokyo. Winged females and males disperse, mate and start a new colony. This poor queen ant was caught by a jumping spider before shedding its wings.

despite being a little more considerate towards my spine than other local ants by being partially arboreal, Crematogaster scutellaris makes up for it by also being far more willing to throw hands. the very recognizable threat pose seen here is funny and their annoying little bites aren't a big deal, but they're very willing to swarm my hands the second i touch a branch for stability and i do not want several tiny red things on me
