there is an attempt at subtlety in the way he’s craning his neck to see her better---a poor attempt, but an attempt nonetheless. it’s nearly instinctual for him at this point, to try to get a glance at every book cover and spine and title on public spaces, even now as his focus should be at his laptop and the open word document... but remains just outside of his grasp, mind and eyes wandering everywhere but the led screen. he catches her glance at him, moment of eye contact more than enough to tell his attention hasn’t gone unnoticed, and he visibly shrinks down, one hand coming up on the back of his neck and the other linking to its upper arm; apology present but not quite overpowering the curiosity. “ i’m sorry, fraulein, i was just---i was just trying to see the book that you were reading. ”
