Do they have special places in the imagination for the creatures they like to be? like soft cushions intricate webs or nests or things that Remus dreamt up for them to relax in? ~Fred

Kind of! Remus has a castle for the aesthetic and to mirror Roman, but he has no use for it so he made all the rooms into environments for Deceit and Virgil. The dungeons are actually an ocean! Sometimes you just want to be a jellyfish or something for a while.

The throne room is a cozy living room with sunlight filtering through windows and lots of warm places, perfect for when one or both of them is a cat. The walls are covered with shelves and scratching posts for them to climb, and there are places where they can hide away, plus toys and plants.

The rest of the rooms are like scandinavian forest, southeast asian rainforest, north american cave system, etc.

Janus gets misunderstood when wanting affection sometimes so he's provided standing permission to 2 sides to hug attack him if they think he's trying to get it. He does not expect to find himself spending hours pulled into cuddle piles but loves how often they start to happen after that ~Fred who can't find good things to send in asks so is sending random ideas or smile things instead

I'm really just picturing that "If I jump at [person] they will catch me" "Don't, I'm holding coffee!" meme but with Janus, Remus and Virgil-

this was cute but what if angst-

because what if Janus gave that permission before Virgil left, and even if they're friends again, Virgil doesn't know if he still has that permission-

also Remus attach himself as a koala to Janus, probably with tentacles, to make up for the missing person

I know you've said how you think the sides would react if the fakimals were revealed as sides, but do they realise there's only 2 of them, or ever figure that out? ~ Fred

"So what about the others?" Logan breaks the silence, once the chaos of the reveal has settled. Anxiety and Deceit are both standing rigidly; Remus has slung his arm around their shoulders in a move that look relaxed but is definitely protective.

"What others, teach?" Remus asks. Anxiety and Deceit share a glance, most likely communicating silently.

"It's been established that two of your pets were actually Anxiety and Deceit, but what about the others?"

"Those were- weren't us." Deceit speaks up, his s-sounds drawn out with an almost hissing lilt.

Logan nods. It does make sense that they would be able to shapeshift into multiple forms, and that explains why they never saw more than two animals at any given time.

"Could you repeat that, kiddo?" Patton asks, a look of confusion on his face.

Instead of answering out loud, Deceit shapeshifts first into a snake and then into a hummingbird. He doesn't shift back into a human.

"Oh."

The soft sound comes from Roman, whose cheeks have flushed at the realisation of who has been nestling into his hair over the years. Logan can't tell if he's embarrassed or flustered.

He doesn't get much time to think about it as Patton screams. Anxiety has shifted into a spider, and is currently running up Remus' arm to find somewhere to hide.

Logan makes a mental note to research if the two sides can have been affected by spending the majority of their life as different animals. For now, he has to calm down Patton.

Pffft.

It's a mix of things! Roman just generally has the best viewing spot; Patton on one side, Logan on the other, and Thomas pretty much in front of him. And being Remus' twin, Roman is automatically considered the safest option. He and Remus are just alike enough in body language and personality for Deceit to know what to expect.

And well, Roman undoubtedly takes the best care of his hair.

Well I got the forms sorted and now get to listen to an argument over proof the council will want. What an introduction to someone mum keeps visiting! In the fakimals au does roman ever try shape-shifting after Virgil and janis are shown as sides ~fred

Oh! It would take a few weeks from their introduction as sides for it to really sink in that all of them could shift into animals if they wanted to. Actually, it would probably take Remus shapeshifting for Roman to realise that it isn't just a special power that Virgil and Janus has.

Roman immediately attempts to shift into a mighty lion. He ends up a sub-adult lion, with the mane just starting to grow in. It's a pretty good first try, but definitely less impressive than what he had in mind.

when Virgil appeared as a spider before they were revealed as sides how badly did Patton react? or was it like the quickest way to get him changing solutions from one Virgil really didn't like, just appear as a spider and listen to the backpedalling ~Fred

First time that Virgil appeared as a spider, he appeared on Patton's shoulder. It was awful for both of them; Patton screamed and panicked, and Virgil disappeared immediately.

Virgil never again made the mistake of appearing as a spider on Patton, for both of theirs sake. He doesn't want to hurt them, just get them to not have Thomas do something stupid.
